The Good – On Friday night, at the MCI Center, the Washington Wizards defeated Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers 101 to 89. The Wizards went on to complete a 5 for 5 week by beating the 76ers on Saturday afternoon. The team is really starting to gel, and we are one of the few teams in the NBA that can legitimately boast about having a three-pronged offensive attack (Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison, and Caron Butler). The team is in great shape as we head into the All-Star break.
The Good
The next time that you want to fire someone for incompetence, remember that the Celtics passed on Arneas to take both Joseph Forte and Kedrick Brown. Think on that, and then return to your own nincompoop employee after you’ve lowered the bar.
Just a quick thanks for signing Kolzig. To see a team/player relationship like that reminds us why we love the game. It’s a throwback to when, as fans, we felt as tied to the players as we did to our favorite teams. The Scott Stevens retirement ceremony in New Jersey is another great example. I’ll be there for Kolzig’s.
Thanks! For allowing this blog to be read by all and especially for keeping Kolzig in DC. Since Dale H left he has become the heart and soul of the team. AO may get there, he leads by example every night. The ugly was definately the Pens fans at the Verizon Center. But I figure they need one last hurrah before the Pens move to KC.
The MCI center has become all the Caps hated rivals home away from home. Rabid fans for the visiting teams has been ruining the fun of coming to Caps home games. Saturday I left the Pittsburgh game in the second period, very angry and embarrassed. This situation is disgusting and may soon change me from a partial season ticket holder to a TV viewer.
I agree with David. Doull was a great acquisition for the Caps. Kudos to George McPhee and the whole organization. I totally support the approach of working to develop what we have and giving the guys in Hershey a chance to skate at MCI, but there are times when we need to find someone to fill a specific unmet need and if we can make that happen through modest pick ups like Doull, we should.
Well, as far as I’m concerned fighting is one of the few exciting elements still left in today’s game. I like some of the rules changes, but the amount of power plays is ridiculous and destroys the flow of the game. Sorry, but PP goals aren’t exciting when they’re all you see.The first period on Saturday had some scrums, but only one real fight. Disallow fighting all you want, scrums aren’t going anywhere. Rules don’t effect that. This was a game between two teams towards the bottom of the standings in the NHL and it just oozed of emotion. It was great to see both teams care about winning when both have seasons that are virtually over. One of the best things the Capitals did over the weekend was call up and play Doug Doull. He was great and filled the game with energy whenever he was out there.Kolzig certainly is a great guy, good signing by the Caps there.
I was disappointed to see the Caps losses but was very excited about Kolzig’s extension.
The ugly was frustrating for me as a fan. The first period of the Pittsburgh game was frequently interrupted with brawls. For a league interested in reducing “stoppages in play” with rule changes, its disappointing that they still allow fighting. As far as I’m concerned, the NHL needs to eliminate fighting. It distracts from the speed and finesse of the new breed of hockey, which arrived this season.
