This is story that tells every coach should see. It shows that this coach teaches team work and commitment to let every person accomplish their dreams. It teaches others to sacrifice a little to let someone else achieve their gtoals. There should be more coaches like this in todays world of sports. Thank you coach for inspiring me to be a better person!
I finally caught up with this story after seeing The President with Jason. During lunch time I viewed the the whole video on the web. Tears are flowing and I am trying not to let my co-workers see me crying in my cubicle. What a beautiful story. I am very happy for Jason, his parents, his coach, the team and school. They should be congratulated for being so supportive.
Jason is a true American Hero ! When my family watch it on the evening news there wasn’t a dry eye in our house ! Jason has touched every heart in America !
I just wanted to say congrats to Jason, but unfortunately this does not hold true for all autistic kids. He apparently has a mild case of it and my son is not so fortunate. I know he will never accomplish anything like that in his life and I know that, but I Love him regardless. So dont say any kid can do something like that when they cannot. He is just one of the few lucky ones!!!!!!!Comment by Barbara Rhodes March 4, 2006
Way to go Jason! You are the man! I have Asperger’s Syndrome, an autisitic-like disorder and your moment in the game means progress. I saw the CBS news broadcast and was more than inspired. Schools must be more inclusive of students with special needs like Greece Athena High is with you. Special needs students are more often isolated, teased, and bullied and much more work must be done. Your victory on the b-ball court is a step in the right direction. I hope someday you go on to college.
As a mother of a a 5 year old autistic boy I am truely inspired! I see that anything is possible despite the disability! Jason, you are an awesome kid and a role model!!
I was at that game, I am a Varsity cheerleader at SPencerport High School and we were the opposing team that night. This is an amazing story and if you weren’t there it might have been hard to believe if it hadn’t gotten so much coverage. No matter whose team you came there to watch that night, everyone in the gym was rooting for “J-Mac” by the end of the game. One of our girls was even crying. It was truly a spectacular sight!
I live in Rochester and this story is one of those where even though the gym only holds about 1,000 people, 20,000 will say they were there! It is just incredible and we are so proud of Jason. But it should be said they we are just as proud of all the kids who have attended school with Jason over the years and have been so supportive of his efforts to “fit it”. It is a great story of not just one person, but of a whole community. The parents, coaches, players, students. Everyone who came together to make this such an amazing night. Several studios have already inquired about the rights to the story, including Disney. Hopefully they will do it right!
After showing this story to my 15 year old sophomore daughter she asked in disbelief ” and they never played him before?”
Jason, your story is truly amaazing. Great game, the Knicks could use you, you do live in Rochester, so hey, it might work ouy
Most touching story I have ever heard.
That is why life is such a mystery to be lived , thanks for the link and the great feeling.
