Here’s an idea: show more complete coverage like you can see in Europe. The whole events without bias towards the Americans (US & Canada). There’s enough TV channels aren’t there? The Olympics should be presented in a dignified manner. Don’t pander to what network boardrooms think viewers like. Corporate TV execs simple cannot hear the boardom and apathy they create. The message is “simplify.” I wonder if PBS would do the Olympics better? Is corporate television competitive, running scared, or clueless?
Awful Ideas! It’s the Olympics, not the X games. The Olympics are about the purest of human achievements; Sports like the Moguls are bad enough!
Great, let’s dumb down the Olympics. The Olympics have already lost a lot of their original spirit – allowing professionals being one of the biggest problems. Let’s not gimmick it up even more by letting the viewers have a say in the voting and putting all these reality-TV type features in place. Frankly I’d rather see the Olympics die entirely than end up with another tacky, half-fake “reality” show.
I’d argue the fault lies with NBC: http://www.thenation.com/doc/20060306/zirin
