By centering this free site around educating consumers about digital media (video, music, pictures) consumption in the home and on the go, we are furthering AOL’s strategy of providing web users with the info and tools they need to truly get the most out of digital media.
The site features content from around the Internet, branded (e.g. Consumer Reports) and non-branded (blogs). The multimedia blog, entitled "My Plugged in Life", is especially interesting because in includes user-generated content and also profiles real people using real technology in their everyday lives via embedded video profiles and picture galleries. It encourages all Internet users to post comments and rate the videos, compelling them to engage in this multimedia experience.
Also included in the site are short how-to tutorials that will answer mainstream questions like "What is a Media Center PC", "How do I hook up AOL Radio to my home theater system?", etc. We also offer free, instructor-led online classes with topics ranging from an HDTV primer to how to network a home. Using an AOL or AIM screenname to authenticate, users can easily keep track of the classes taken and where they left off.
Check it out! It is pretty cool, especially if you feel confused by how today’s digital media technology all fits together.
