Thank You and Calm Down :-)

The Caps are really pushing to get to a 90 percent renewal rate for season ticket holders and partial plan holders. I have been calling people that have not renewed for three weeks. We have asked some of the players to help us as well.

We have scheduled a series of small get togethers and there is one scheduled for this Saturday morning at practice camp as well. We are doing everything we can to close on business with people that are sitting on the fence and haven

  1. I applaud your effort to retain STHs from last year. But what about creating new ones? I find myself contemplating season tickets every year, but finding that the cost savings simply do not provide a great enough incentive. I think this is a great loss to the organization because I am a huge fan and I am sure there are many other like me. There’s a big difference, in terms of value to the franchise, between fans who catch the occasional Saturday game and those willing to commit to seeing every game, game in and game out, or even 11 or 19 games. Don’t you think a fan willing to make that kind of commitment deserves a bit more of a discount? I think the return to the franchise from having those kinds of fans in seats instead of at home would far outweigh initially reduced gate receipts over the long run. I hope the Caps will commit to filling every seat for every game, by whatever means necessary.

  2. I think I overreacted to this. I’m sure during the season I’ll be seeing how important the STH’s are to the Caps management. I also bought the tickets because I love the Caps and the game of hockey.

  3. As a season ticket holder for the past 6 years or so I am on the fence on if i am upset about not having more activity perks.

    I don’t think I am.

The only perk I’d like to see is better food at MCI and perhaps a little more variety in the between periods. After going to 40+ games a season you tend to get sick if seing the same stuff week after week.

I don’t think the change in food vendor will ever happen and allowing folks to bring outside food like we were allowed to before probably will not happen.

Why do people think perks are needed? If you spend $2,000 on a new HDTV is Best Buy going to throw in a years worth of DirecTV? I don’t think so. Do people not sign up because they don’t have the opportunity to meet with the team more then once a year or don’t get free parking?

  4. KP, well said.

I saw my first-ever NHL game on October 16th, 2005. We beat the Bolts 3-2 in a shootout, and I was absolutely hooked. I was buying a LOT of walk-up tickets that year. Then Detroit came to town, and trying to go walk-up forced me onto club level. Ninety bucks was a LOT, but I wasn’t missing Stevie Y’s last game in the District.

And on the Metro ride home from the Detroit game, I was thinking, you know something? As many games as I see, I NEED to look at a plan. If I’m really that serious about seeing as many games as I possibly can, why not pay less money for games I already have every intention of seeing?

The games have been OK, but they’re going to be a lot better this year. And I think there will even be more of them (I’m already on record elsewhere saying we’ll make the playoffs.)

And if the hockey’s good and the Caps are playing their hearts out every night I’m in the building, that’s all that I have the right to ask for. Everything beyond that is just gravy.

But that could be just me…

  5. I became a plan holder for the hockey, not any perks. The perk for me is a discount to all the games I probably would have gone to anyways. That in itself was enough to get me to sign on as a weekend plan holder. The only thing I would change would be to allow folks like me, partial plan holders, to get tickets to games that are not included in the plan at the same cost as our plan. However, I would limit it to as many tickets as your plan has, and not on game nights that your plan includes, and only allow it once or twice a season.

  6. I’ve got to admire your diligence…and patience. If I invited 50 people to a party at my house and only 12 showed, I’d be more than a little ticked off. That’s just plain rude. Let’s just hope the team wins because it will make your job a heck of a lot easier.

  7. As a new full season ticket holder, I must admit that I am disappointed that there hasn’t been any get-togethers for us. Guess the key to get preferred treatment to re-up for season tickets from the Caps is to wait until close to next season’s start so I can get these benefits. Sorry, Ted, after paying $6,000 for my 2 full season tickets, I do feel slighted.
