I would like to echo Mike L’s comments of this date. Willie O’Ree is an international treasure whose time has come to be placed on a pedelstal. We, in his hometown of Fredericton, New Brunswick, will recognize him on Jan. 16/2008 by naming our new sportsplex in his honor. Perhap it is all time we joined forces to have Willie O’Ree inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame.
Willie will be honoured January 16, 2008 in his hometown of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. The City is naming its new $16 million sports and leisure complex in his honour. It’s going to be a great party. Get the details at http://www.fredericton.ca. Hope to see you there.
Willie O’Ree is an important person in the history of the NHL and hockey in general. It is kind of sad that not as many people know who he is or what he did back then. The last time he was introduced at the Verizon center, there was polite applause, but, in reality, he should be given a Standing Ovation every time he shows up.
Baseball had Jackie Robinson, but tragically he died so young. Hockey still has Willie O’Ree and he should be remembered for what he did…
