Saturday’s Game

I have decided to not blog about each game. We have so many media now covering us and so many capable bloggers, I no longer need to feed the algorithmic monster. Kudos to our community for creating a network of sites and so much ink and digital and video inputs that I can sit it out.

We had a very good night on the business side last night. While our crowd was announced at about 700 additional people compared to last season, we had about 1,500 more paid tickets sold. Our revenues increase about 20 percent year over year. And the merchandising sales were off the chart. We had the best night in the history of new ownership in terms of sales or what is called in the industry, per cap numbers. It was great to see so many people wearing red. Thank you so much. I thought all of the new graphics and music and the new scoreboard worked well. I thought our fans were loud and enthusiastic and we showed many more replays. The coaches and players all commented on how loud our building is when we have so many fans at the arena. And yes, I noted Slapshot

  1. Mr. Leonsis,

Indeed, you have assembled a great product this season. It should make for a very exciting season. I especially like the hard work George McPhee has done over the off-season.

    All the best,

  4. I love what I am seeing on the ice so far… a great start to what should be a great season. I hope there are some folks taking notice of what happened this past weekend with the Caps. :)

  5. It was a great event! Most enjoyable! Slapshot had me in tears, priceless. There’s no limit to how far this team can go if their play stays at this level. The new HD scoreboard, just awesome! With Kettler/Capitals Iceplex, this organization is first class.

  6. The game was absolutely amazing. The atmoshpere was awesome, and I’m looking forward to playoff time already :)

But one thing that did not happen for my on Saturday night was the playing of what we call the “O” song. It’s that song that last season was played after every goal schored by the Caps. My friends and I greatly missed that song because we hear it at other sporting events all the time, and we always associate it with hockey.

One of my friends who came with my to the game on Saturday, who happens to be a Canes fan, was severly dissapointed that we did not hear the “O” song.

So, I absolutely love the Caps, love the uniforms, love everything about it, but i just want to hear the “O” song at least once!

    Thanks

    GO CAPS!!!!

  7. Hey Ted.

The new radio partner is great.

The pre-game show was very good.

There seems to be more respect for hockey in this station

    GO CAPS :)

  8. Your team is exciting to watch! In Geography I’m a Flyers fan, but lately I find myself watching more and more Caps games. It is the hardest driving point for the NHL Center Ice subscription. Your team is not just hard working, but they are entertaining. How could anyone not fall in love with this great game when you see the smile of Ovie? Congratulations on the great start and may it continue throughout the season!
