I was able to watch the Caps game against the Islanders on my laptop via Slingbox yesterday. I wasn’t very happy with our performance or the size of the crowd at the game. We have lots of work still to do but to put it in perspective, we have played six games to date
I was at that game the other night. A friend and I went for the Federal Employee Night, and we sat in the $75 section for $45. The Cap’s may have lost, but we had a good time. I’m very frustrated that they we not able to do ANYTHING with the puck on the powerplay. I’m also dissapointed that Semin’s injury has affected this team as much as it has. The depth isn’t where I’d hoped it’d be.
The loss aside, I must say that I loved the view from the nice seats, and we’re planning on coming back really soon.
Ted. Stop sending the players to help the community and make sure they are practicing harder… the team is so stacked at this point that 4 losses in a row is inexcuseable. Did you know we were mentioned in the NHL.com poll which said “which team will go the longest without a defeat?” yeah we were up there and blew it.
Get it together man, i wanna see some wins!
Ted,
I expected more at the Isles game crowd-wise. Thank God more werent there, because they might never come back. Save 5 minutes in the 3rd, uninspired hockey.
Worse, and what is intolerable, is that the team flat out quit after goal 4. Unacceptable.
why has Brian Sutherby not been in the line up? also why has Brashear or Erskine not thrown down the gloves yet to get the team fired up during one of these losses?
I can’t wait for the game tonight! I gotta say I’m pretty disapointed lately. It is so odd, the Caps play amazing at times. You can clearly see when they are fired up, Ovie is everywhere on the ice; making hits scoring, its awesome.Game on Thursday (great example) Ovie goal, Backstrom goal, the energy was high all tied up, and then it died as quickly as it came
Especially when the Islanders scored, it was overwith. You could tell by the energy of the team. Even at practice Friday morning, I didn’t think they looked hyped up. Fans stood out in the pooring rain to get their autographs at the end!!!! They have so much support
iTS ONLY 6 GAMES. i BELIEVE WE HAVE MORE THAN 70 LEFT. too early to judge anything. Wouldn’t judge the redskins after the first quarter of the first game of the season (ok so maybe i was) so need for that here. If after the all star break we still have only 3 wins, I would like a chance to coach.
While the perfomance the last few games hasn’t been great, everyone needs to take a deep breath and realize that this team needs a little time now to put things together. Anyone who thinks that 2 impact players being out of the lineup won’t make a difference obviously hasn’t strapped on the pads or watched much hockey. Malkin and Stall out for Pittsburgh wouldn’t make a difference? Datsyuk and Draper in Detroit? Now that the team has been upgraded, let’s give them a chance and enjoy the ride.
.500 record = 82 points = not enough for playoffs.
You still sure Bondra cannot contribute anything to this team?
Get a consistent team that wins most of their home games, and you’ll see a larger attendance. You are using the injuries as an excuse. If the depth of the team is that weak that it can’t sustain a couple of important player injuries now, hire a GM and coach who plans for those occasions with the right players, so the Caps aren’t in that predicament.
We bought a lot of Caps Kool Aid for this season. Let’s see if we can still drink it after the next few games.
Ted, looking forward to Saturday night’s matchup.
ny chance of broadcasting games online that are not available to Cox subscribers because they are broadcast on CSN+? I am not optimistic that Cox will add CSN+ this season.
When will you ever learn, it takes more than a AHL D to win the Cup.
Considering that the easiest of the opponents we face in this homestand was the Islanders, that will be a great accomplishment. I’ll be happy with win and OT loss in the three remaining games. What I saw last night was a tale of two teams:
In the first 15 minutes of the game and in the first 8 minutes of the third period, there was the Caps team that flew out of the gate in Atlanta and against Carolina and were all over the opposition. They didn’t score in the first and had a bit of a break down to give up a goal, but they looked good overall in the period. They lost their composure in the second, and the powerplay was pretty bad. Olie took a silly penalty while the Caps were shorthanded and then let in a 5-on-3 goal, and it’s 2-0.
The third started out great, the Ovie goal, and Backstrom’s great set up of Flash to tie the game, but then the Isles clicked on the power play (their best goal of the night, a great screen by Trent Hunter so that the only time Olie saw Berard’s shot was when it was coming back out of the net…). From that point, the wind was out of the sails…I don’t know what happened but they completely fell apart.
In the scheme they are playing they are going to give up goals a bit more frequently than if they played a more conservative style, but the Caps aren’t built for that. I’d like to see them come out with the intensity they had in first and first half of the third vs. Pittsburgh. If they can do that, and get the quality of chances they got vs. the Isles, they’ll score in the first (DiPietro is a much better goaltender that Marc Andre Fleury). I hope Boyd is ready to go too, as then he can become Sidney’s best buddy and follow him all around the rink.
See you Saturday! (I’ll be in Sect. 421, Row A, Seat 4 like always!)
Ted, We’re getting killed in the neutral zone and the corners. Wings need to step it up.
