Here are the details on Friday’s event to celebrate the life and times of Dave Fay.

I worked in chairs beside Dave Fay in press boxes around the NHL for many years and there wasn’t a more solid, more decent guy in the business. He was the best company you could ask for. In a business that features too many who presume to know too much from their first days in, Dave stayed curious and eager to learn about the game right to the end. A few years back on an off-day on the road he had me take him to a junior hockey game up in Ottawa (a real busman’s holiday). On a night when he wasn’t working he took in a game just for a good time. Dave had a gruff exterior but that was just the packaging. He had a great sense of humor and never felt like he had to be the center of attention–if he were alive to read this, it would be enough to kill him. And yeah, Dave would laugh about that. Now he can watch all the games he wants without either deadlines or editors.
I’ve made a note to bring tissues to the game, since I’ll need them. So sad the Hall of Fame ceremony will be without him.
