Alex was one of the three stars of the NHL last week and he is on pace to score more than 50 goals and garner 100 points and some of our fans are unhappy with his performance? Either these folks see something that the rest of the league doesn’t see or I am stumped?
Alex was one of the three stars of the NHL last week and he is on pace to score more than 50 goals and garner 100 points and some of our fans are unhappy with his performance? Either these folks see something that the rest of the league doesn’t see or I am stumped? Alex is playing great two way hockey; is a game-changing force; is a great teammate; and is developing into a great on-ice leader as well. Let’s appreciate what we have.
Alex is clearly having the best season of his career. His current point total projects out to 112, which would be a career high, and he far more responsible this year in his own end when you watch him in person (hint hint, folks!).
I fully expect that by this time next year, the Caps might be using him on the second unit PK (taking over about 35-40 seconds into a penalty) where he can exploit the fact that the attacking first-unit power play will have been on the ice for 30-40 seconds and have to deal with AO’s fresh legs… Peter Bondra made a living doing that in the late 1990s.
Now let’s go kick the Rangers around the rink!
Mr. Leonsis,
As you know, Alex is one of the premier players in the NHL. No one with his caliber is such a team player and is willing to do whatever it is to help the team win. His stats are on pace for another great season. New team additions will only help Ovechkin become better. As Ovechkin in turn makes players around him play better. The chemistry will develop more and more as the season continues. Any one who says that Ovechkin is slumping is just ridiculous and should watch number 8 more closely during games.
Ted – I love watching AO play. I started to follow hockey because my husband wanted to go to some games, now we are season ticket holders for the past 3 years. He lights up when he has the puck and it is so exciting because you never know just what he is going to do this time!
I have seen most games this year and AO really is playing great two-way hockey. With the points he’s putting up, the league better look out.
You hit it on the head Ted.
We Caps fans have already beaten the people who thought Alex was off his game… (all 3 of them)..
Come to find out, those people thought it was average to get 14 points a night. (rookies!)
TodderCap
Sometimes even our fans are ignorant. Alex gives 110% all the time. I can’t recall seeing anyone play who loves the game as much as he does.
Players like him come once in a generation. The Caps are lucky to have him. Ted, KEEP HIM!
Didn’t you know? Being hyper-critical well beyond one’s expertise is what “fans” do today. It proves just how hip one is.
Ignore the nonsense and know the silent majority actually has fun watching the Caps.
Most of us did not agree with this slumping thread.
I don’t know why anyone would be unhappy with his performance. At the home opener he blocked a shot in the final minute. Alex Ovechkin and shot blocking never used to be in the same sentence. Its yet another reason he’s the best player in the NHL (along with Boyd Gordan and Mikey Green).
Hey Ted Im sure that threw you off a bit. I thought so to when I saw it. I think many of us fans are still trying to get used to seeing such a positive force on the team. We are still decompressing from the rebuild and maybe cant believe this guy is really on our team. SO we arent even sure where to put the bar with AO. Sometimes people get a bit confused trying to critique something they cant believe is in front of their eyes.
AO is the man and all Caps fans will believe that forever. Much like Bondra.
Ted – Not that I’m at all qualified to judge but I agre. Ovie is playing the offensive end as good as ever and is a much greater force backchecking this year then last. Thanks for working to build a team that is so fun to watch – the Toronot game showed what your team can do! I hope more fans come out for ALL the home games not just the weekend games. The Vancouver game was also awesome to watch and the Caps stayed tow to toe with one of the premier teams in the league!
In all fairness, only the thread started seemed to think Alex was slumping. The rest of the thread is entirely positive.
Agreed. And he isn’t signed to a long term deal yet because?
Did you bother to read the thread? It’s basically one person making a post followed by everyone else bashing it or mocking it. I’m not sure why you would call out a thread like that to comment on.
“Either these folks see something that the rest of the league doesn’t see or I am stumped?”
The rest of the thread seems to disagree with the poster who started it. Please don’t lump us all in with this one guy.
We know Ovie is awesome.
Ted, don’t put too much stock in what a bunch of “the world is not enough” fans sometimes say.
Alex is doing great and we fans are proud to say he is on our team.
cheers
Ted,
I am not that poster, nor am I that poster’s spokeperson, but I don’t think anyone in that thread actually ever really said The Great Ovechkin was really slumping.
Plus, that thread is several days old, I think.
Cheers
I’m probably the worst pessimist, yet I have nothing but admiration for Ovechkin – he’s a joy to watch play the game of hockey – at home or Verizon center in person.
The idiots complaining about Ovechkin are as small in number as their IQs. They don’t represent anyone aside from their own demented selves. Please don’t even humor them by mentioning their rantings in your blog. Any fan with half a brain knows what a gem we have in Ovie. Now please get him signed to that long term contract.
Ted,
Those are the naysayers of the Caps boards expecting a highlight reel goal every shift. The rest of the fans believe in Ovie and all the guys on the team. Ovie is the guy that gives 110% every shift. I think this is his best year yet!
And THANKS TED!!!!
As scary as it sounds, since he’s been scary good the first two years, so far, to me anyway, it appears that Alex is having his best season to date. He’s right now on a pace for 112 points, which would be 10 ahead of his career high. On top of that he’s become a more complete player, his defense is getting better. He’s still got a way to go on defense, but he’s now an above average defender.
I have no doubt that, barring injury, this will be Alex’s best year to date.
it dumbfounds me as well. He’s simply amazing. How lucky we are to have him!
Let’s win some games. Enough of the spin. 11th place in the east, 3rd in the division. Unhappy… yes…
Yes, lets appreciate what we have, Ted, by signing him to a very long term deal ASAP so those of us that are nervous about the right thing — whether or not he’ll be here, not whether or not he’s slumping — can sit back and relax.
