Thank You

We needed that kind of performance last night and congratulations to Nick Backstrom on his first NHL goal. I see my blog post on Mass Hysteria generated quite a bit of swirl and personal attacks yesterday as people read into it what they wanted. I posted it after getting an email from a fan saying that he had heard that Alex Ovechkin was leaving the Washington Capitals to go to Russia and that he was starting a petition drive to avert "Mass Hysteria" about our team. I told the fan that there was no truth to this rumor and that Mass Hysteria was a pretty big concept and one that is hard to put back into a bottle once the genie is let out. I then went to Wikipedia to see what Mass Hysteria meant and thought it was a cool definition in light of Facebook, instant messaging and the blogosphere; subjects that I comment on a regular basis. That was all. I promise to be clearer in my blog posts and NOT be so ambivalent sometimes. Ted

  1. Congrats to the Caps on beating the Sens! We are only 2pts out of second place! Big game against Tampa tonight. If we win it could really shake up the division.

    GO CAPS!

  2. LETS GO CAPS!

I will admit that when you love a sports team, it is easy to have doubts, and fear the worst. But also when you love a sports team, you know to have faith, and despite all odds, believe in your team.

Fans believe in this team. The passionate outbursts of anger and joy should show you how passionate your fans are. Reward that passion with a hard work and commitment, and they’ll reward you with a lifetime of loyalty.

I am a Washington Capitals fan, have been so before the cup run, after, and during the fire sale. I survived a lock out year, and have stood by my team during a crucial re-build. The only reason people are so worried about the team and react this way is because they to have gone through the ups and downs, and there is so much promise on this team.

The caps are truely a sleeping giant.

  3. I’m glad somebody’s noticing Nick’s first goal! Congrat’s to my favorite new Cap! He’s played tremendously this whole season, especially if you consider the fact that he’s 19. Some of his best plays have come in the midst of some serious punishment, or in a fury of quick action (behind the net assist against the Islanders, and his goal last night stand out in mind). What a hard working forward! He hasn’t generated too much buzz, but he doesn’t even care about that. He’ll probably earn 50 assists a season as a veteran, and his smart, responsible play are worth equally as much. With Ovey, Semin and Nick, the Caps have a bright future up front!

  4. Congrats on a great win last night! What I find funny is a lot of message boarders accuse you of spin, and those people took your post and spun it to look like you were lashing out at them, causing mass hysteria.

  5. The Caps have a keeper in Backstrom. I was more impressed with how he got the goal then it just being his first goal.I have been waiting for us to have a player that will stand in front of the net getting kabonged and do the dirty work.

Congrats to the Caps on a solid team effort last night.

    We needed that win.

  6. From what I can see, the only way AO is leaving the Capitals is when he announces his retirement from hockey in 2023. The Caps will put #8 in the rafters of their new arena (The Leonsis Center?) and it will be the 6th number retired (after 7, 5, 32, 12 and 37).

It’ll go up there with the five Stanley Cup banners, seven Eastern Conference banners, and 11 division championship banners.

I’m allowed to dream. I already have plans to get a jersey in one of the next few years with the number of 09, 10, or 11 with the name plate of “Stanley Cup”.

Here’s hoping it might even be #08! :D
