This is an interesting article and it shows how unclear the issue of rights and who gets paid is in the new digital future. I will give you an example. In his rookie year, Alex Ovechkin scored "the goal" and it was made into online video tributes and shared millions and millions of times. It became a breakout hit on YouTube. Now imagine if Google had served ads or video b roll ads or done sponsored link sales aside it. Here is what would have been considered: The young college student who made the video tribute would ask for money. He created the content that generated the page views. If he made it with a friend, they would bicker on who gets what. The music from the musicians that was embedded into the video – and wasn’t licensed – would have to be paid a fee. The record label would have their hand out too. Alex Ovechkin would say,
