Empathy

I have deep personal empathy for what the Redskins organization is going through this past week and in the coming days. It is probably the worst 10 day period imaginable.

To have a great young player murdered in such a senseless manner is beyond comprehension. To deal with the criminal investigation and capture of four young adults that confess to the crime while having to prepare for a game is just unimaginable. And then to play the game, after a public wake is conducted for the fan base before the game, and then lose in such a heartbreaking manner is mind numbing. I just feel so much empathy and compassion for this organization. And now the entire team and front office are flying down to Florida to attend the funeral for Sean Taylor today and then come back to prepare for a game on Thursday. It is almost too much information, emotion and personal reflection to process. I recently lost my dad and I know how I felt emotionally and introspectively. I couldn’t imagine having to deal with such a public scrutiny of my business performance while I was in mourning. To have fans chanting negatively because the team lost at the last moment and then have to read all of the clips the next day concerning the performance of the team and the organization is disheartening. Owning a sports team is the most public and transparent of public trusts. There is no manual for how to conduct yourself in a time of a teammate
