Thank You Abe Indeed!

Abe Pollin and his wife, Irene, threw a terrific party last night celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Verizon Center and also Abe’s birthday. The mood was festive; the food was great; and the entertainment – in the form of Bill Cosby – was just hysterically funny and poignant.

  1. To me Abe Pollin has been a double edge sword. Yes he built a nice areana and helped turn that area of DC around. But it always seemed like he has always treated the Caps as the “other team” that helped filled the Capital/Verizon Center when the Bullets/Wizards were not playing which was his favorite son. It has been what almost 10 years since he sold the team and said he was going to give it a few more years to sell the rest. Until Ted/Lincoln Holdings is able to own the “whole cow” and not be a renter the Caps will continue to be limited in how much progress they can make. So thanks for the building Abe, but do us a favor and quit hanging on to the dream of another NBA championship so the Caps can go after their first Stanley Cup.

  2. What about the quality of the ice at VC? What about Chris Clark’s comments on the quality of the ice and it being the worst int he NHL?

  3. Ted, will you please work with Abe to ensure the Verizon Center ice is rapidly brought up to NHL condition? Reading players’ comments that our ice is well-known as the worst in the league, and that it is contributing to player injuries, must concern you greatly. Surely you have noticed the visible puddles at every game.

  4. As one who attends some 90 matches a year there as a Caps, Mystics and Wizards STH, I must offer my congratulations as well.

The Phone Booth is convenient, accessible, has good sightlines and decent beer…all it needs now are some championships!

  5. We are indeed lucky to have the Phone Booth. It’s hard to believe some of the other dumps that pass for arenas. Here’s too many more years at VC!
