Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year

I just read the cover story in SI on Brett Favre. He is deserved of the Sportsman of the Year title. However, this year SI can probably award the Anti-Sportsman of the Year title as well. Who do you think should get it? There are so many candidates this year – a sad time in sports.

  1. Pretty sad day for sports. As a dog owner, I am furious someone would endorse such poor treatment of animals.

I’m glad that the Capitals, Redskins and Wizards have players of character. I could never imagine Ovie flipping off fans, or endorsing illegal acts, and I hope that no one on the capitals ever would.

Micheal Vick was a role model to many, and he let his own selfish reason land him in jail.

I hope he learns something while spending time in the real “Bad Newz Kennel.”

Good post Ted, nice to see owners taking responsibility and wanting their players to be role models off the field/ice.

  2. In any large group of people, be they athletes making up a pro sports league, or say a company like AOL, you’re always going to get some bad apples. Vick wasn’t a bad sportsman, or an anti-sportsman, his play on the field was fine, he was a bad citizen off the field. If anybody else had been running the dogfighting bit, it would have been a two paragraph story on page 12. All the same, Vick is rightfully reaping what he sowed.

  3. Bonds. Hands-down. He has corrupted the sanctity of legitimate statistics in his sport, and will always live with the asterisk!

  4. I think Vick is the run-away candidate for Anti-Sportsman of the year in 2007.

For second I’d nominate perennial contender Jeffrey Loria
