I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, in Bay Ridge – Sunset Park. A friend of mine just sent me this link to a fotoblog about my old neighborhood and it brought back a lot of old memories. Check it out. And scroll all the way down. Cucco Bear is Joe Cucco, my good friend, who sent me the link! That graffiti is more than 30 years old! Can you believe it?

I love this kind of stuff! There’s something to be said for these neighborhoods where the stores, buildings, etc have some character – unfortunately we’re in an Age of mass homogeneous construction, consumption, etc…I blame it on global branding!
All the best, John Gerbino
Good to see that mention was made of the neighbourhood’s Scandinavian heritage – Rise Stevens, a Norwegian-American and greatest of Metropolitan Opera Carmens, was born there around World War 1.

Oh my God,what a great site. My father is a retired NYC Detective and worked in a unit called the Riverfront Squad. He knows every nook and cranny of the old neighborhood. I can’t wait to show him this site. My Aunt Molly 90yrs old still lives there and attends Saint Michael’s Senior Center. The neighborhood will always have a soft spot in my heart. I HAVE TO SAY IT, The Caps played some game last night. The new coach Bruce Boudreau is getting the job done. The change is right and good things are happening! Way to Go Caps!!!! Merry Christmas!
