Capitals TV ratings on Comcast are strong and up. Check it out.
From SportsBusiness DailyDecember 18, 2007
REGIONAL COVERAGE: Regional coverage for NHL teams is also seeing some healthy gains. For the first time, Comcast SportsNet Chicago has been able to air select Blackhawks home games, and the broadcasts are averaging a 0.93 HH rating for three telecasts. When compared to the year-ago period, Blackhawks telecasts are down 45% to date, averaging a 0.6 HH rating, but they are in the area where the team
So the traditional hockey town teams ratings are way up, with maybe the exception of the blues ahead of DC…
Those traditional hockey towns have grown generations of kids… something we need to do…. and they listen to the announcers….
I see the benanati cheerleaders on here, and if you think it’s cool for him to get excited… as he does when the other team scores… then it is obvious you are not a Capitals fan, but your heart is with another team, and obviously not from the DC metro area….
When an 8 year old Caps fan sees the other team score… he shouldn’t be listening to mr b. yell ‘Bullseye’! or a shoot out goal… for the other team,
“oh yeah, he scores”!
I know when someone is spitting in my face and the kids do too…. or maybe, they will just become the other teams fans… why admire ovechkin, when you have so many other great players out there…..
Hey why be a devout Caps fan win or lose… I will be a detroit fan,(because mr. b says they are better players than our guys) and maybe watch the Caps on TV and only buy tickets when Detroit is in town….. why grow up and make it a priority to be a season ticket holder with their favorite team the Caps?
bottom line… mr. b wouldn’t last 5 games calling them like he does here in detroit, philly, pittsburg, toronto, ny….
He doesn’t respect the team or the Caps…. let’s encourage his career, and send him on….
He thinks he’s God’s gift to hockey knowledge… all good and well… but I don’t watch the freaking Caps game to listen to his knowledge… I watch the freaking Caps game to watch my team win!
It’s like he has been saying, oh, don’t fret you simple little Caps fan, you just don’t understand… everyone is better than you….. just sit back and let me school you on it… (indoctinate)
Sorry, mr. b… I think my Caps are better players… and I’d appreciate it if you’d get on board…. or actually since you never have been on board… I wish you a great career, some…. where….else….
This is good news! There are nights that Joe B. and Locker are as funny as anything on TV, and they’re both very knowledgeable about the game and know when to let the story unfold and when it’s time to have some fun.
The question I have though is what is the team doing to make sure that Joe B. stays in DC. Each year he gets more and more national game coverage (good for him!) but it means that we get Al Koken doing play-by-play. Al was replaced as the Caps play-by-play at least twice since I moved here in 1985….if Joe’s going to be more a national figure with Comcast and their Versus network, then can we get a regular replacement play-by-play, or maybe have Locker go sit in the radio booth with Steve and do a simulcast on the audio?
Mr. Leonsis,
Good to hear about more progress and success about the NHL. The season is really starting to heat up! The Caps new found energy is really starting to get some results. GO CAPS!!!!
This is really good news! I would love to see regional data for the NBA or MLB to compare. Hockey is a great game and I think if ESPN would pick it up and start supporting it instead of bashing it–hockey could pass basketball–its a much better game.
Ted I noticed that Bar Louie is one of the Caps on Tap bar locations, yet yesterday I was there for a friends birthday and not a single TV had the Detroit/Caps game on. Thats horrible support.
Joe Beninati is terrific. While you can tell he shows a little more enthusiasm when the Caps score (which he should) it is not over the top and he always gives the opponents props when due. It’s no wonder he is so strong on versus. And Locker is just the best. Let’s make sure they’re both with us for a long time!
