Odd. This morning is the first morning since August that I awoke, went online and had not a single email in my Washingtoncaps@aol.com email box. We go into Detroit on national TV and steal a point in a dominant performance. We beat Tampa on the road. And there are no emails sent to me. But when we lose a game, I average at least 25 negative emails mostly from the same folks. What does this say about email as a medium and about the passions of some of our fans? I am trying to figure it out. Any ideas?
Sorry Ted, if I knew the inbox was empty – I certainly would have chimed in with something honest, yet positive! I’ve just been busy reminding people that “I told them the CAPS had it in them.” Happy and healthy holidays to you, the fans on a “bandwagon” and those of us who will never lose the CAPS-faith”!
KEEP IT UP!!!!! WERE COMING BACK! DOWN WITH THE NAYSAYERS!
(Me after complaining alot when Hanlon was not fired. I apologize, but it had to happen. Now that its over, were moving back on up)
GO CAPS!!!!
I think it’s just like anything else really (and this may be a sad statement on “us” in general). You do five good things at work, but do one small error and what gets pointed out? Or take the new coverage for instance. There are 15 stories about murders, fires, car jackings, etc., and maybe one story about someone doing some good. I think we are just more trained as a society to detect and point out the negative in things.
I think people are relaxing. The Capitals are playing much better under Boudreau, are buying into his system and executing pretty well.
Overall Ted, things are getting better. Just get Ovie a contract!
Those 25 people need to get a life. Then again, I comment a lot on your blog so maybe I need to get a life too
.
Cap’s are playing great right now! It’s a pleasure to catch a game on TV or at the ‘booth.
I guess people are too wrapped up reading about Brittney Spears’ sister to write you and congratulate you.
Personally, I’m too busy trying to buy my first house at the moment to send many emails. But congrat’s are certainly in order:)
Ted,
The fan base here is fickle, and I suspect that statement is not a newsflash to you! I think the real fan base is settling in as the team is now performing more in line with expectations. So maybe we’re all anticipating now as we see how the standings shift in the these next 20 games or so. The anticipation, though is a calm one. But it’s there nonetheless. We are all very happy with the 2 game raod trip. The win in Tampa was a big step. However, the performance is Detroit was truly noteworthy. Check out the pregame and postgame interviews with Coach Babcock of the Wings. He knows we outplayed them, and IMO they – not us – were lucky to get any points. I attended practice today. I have been to numerous ones this year including 4 under Bruce. Today, I observed a very high amount of emergy, happiness, and team unity. These qualities are those of winners. It is great to see it, and I can’t imagine it going away. Beyond our new system and resulting improved play, many of our players have rid themselves of the “black-cloud” mentality and the dread associated with recent Cap teams. Now if the fans can only rid themselves of the negatives, we could be in for a lot of fun. I know how hard you’ve worked for this entity. you’ve clearly learned much, and I thank you for sticking with it. WE all know that it’s a business, but I hope we all get to undertand something very important. Namely, when all is said and done it is after all a GAME!
P.S. email is dying as a communication tool.
Ovie still needs a contract
In Washington, we like to over-analyze and see what’s wrong with things, and not give much credit when something is right.
The team is playing great, and my friends and I are experiencing very very quiet optimism about this team. We don’t wanna jynx anything.
I’m sure I’m not the only one. Keep up the good work, and send Bruce and the boys our best. Go Caps!~
Mr. Leonsis,
Some people just like to complain. These people who do so are not real fans of the game! They should also be ignored. Additionally, fans including my self lack the patience and fail to notice the progress you make over a long season. All teams go through there ups and down. The CAPS are doing really well right know and have a lot of momentum. Keep up the good work!
I think it makes sense. The general feel is good, but no one (including the team, coach, etc…) want to get ahead of ourselves. There is a lot of work left to do, but the parts are in place, and the results have been improving. When we make the playoffs, and you have no emails, I encourage you to challenge us.
Thanks
