I am not happy with the way we have played the last two games but I am happy with the way we generated points in the last four games, three of which were on the road.
We went into Tampa last Saturday and got a win, two points. We then went into Detroit and lost in a shootout, one point. We then laid an egg at home and lost to Montreal (no points) and then went to play the Islanders and lost in OT, one point. So four games – three on the road – we garner four of eight possible points. Not that bad of an eight day performance. However, we really needed to gain six of a possible eight points to be back on a run that gets us into contention and helps us to make up ground on other teams in the Eastern conference. Losing games at home is really hurting us.
End to end hockey is fun to watch – when your team isn’t getting blown out playing it, it’s even more fun to watch. Success is contagious. A couple more solid performances, games that the team can look back on and be impressed with, and I think we’ll see them round a corner.
good to see you voicing the high expectations i know you have.
Mr. Leonsis I pull for the caps. I love to see them win. I want to see us raise the cup in DC. But first and foremost sports is about entertainment. And even though we haven’t been winning the last few games, I find myself wanting to watch the games because the Caps are playing good hockey, moving the puck well, etc. Earlier this season I cringed whenever the Caps when on the power play (because it was so static) or when they had to kill one (because it seemed that the situation wasn’t if they’ll score but when!) Now I want to watch them regularly (even though I usually have time only to see them on TV!!!)
Now if only Clarkie comes back!!!
Ted,
I think we’re getting closer tohaving a consistent winning team. A few less mistakes by the D and we’re on our way. I said this in another post but I really do think there is something new and exciting since BB took over. There’s an energy that didn’t exist before.
They’re playing gritty hockey, and we were all over them in the first period against Montreal… I see momentum, and where there is will there’s a way…
Thanks for the video on the Caps site, I had to go to a Christmas Party….
Glad to see my favorite announcer was excited to see the Islanders beat us in OT..
I’d like to see a replay of all his calls of the greatest goals AGAINST the Capitals… or just the last couple of seasons… (that way no Lemiuex) put it on dvd & ship it as a gift to all season ticket holders… I bet that would be a real “bullseye” with the fans for Christmas..
It can be broken down and spun in 8 day performance, 3-game groups, periods, shifts, weeks, quarters, 10-game stretch, pay-periods, or whatever.
The bottom line is that the team is second to last.
