No need for ice girls…..but I won’t complain if they’re there.
why not? It works for plenty of other sports, and I don’t hear people complaining that they’ll cancel their redskins tickets if they have cheerleaders there next year again. As long as their not in the way during play, who cares?
I had a really good time at the Verizon Center without them, and I’ll be back again…
Please, no. Never.
I’m not violently for or against them but since you’re asking put me in the NO vote catagory. I like the Mites on Ice and the Human Hamster Ball Races; I also REALLY like when the Caps play great hockey and win. LETS GO CAPS!!!!!
why not just selectively give away a good number of tickets to comely young women in the downtown area a few days before games? any eye candy would be confined to the stands which would be both more pleasing to the purists and to those fans sitting nearby who are interested in such things. heck, you might even get some concessions revenue out of it from the newcomers, and probably more from the (happier) fans sitting nearby. word might spread …
young females living in the downtown are an untapped market for you. try to put some attractive butts in the seats, not shaking on the ice.
please NO!!!
It cheapens the game and is degrading to women!
Don’t even think about it, hockey is not like basketball, so please let’s not emulate their type of “entertainment”. If you go this route, you may as well get a bearded lady and sword swallower and turn it over to Ringling Brothers
Tell you what? How about we recognize the smart female fans out there?
I’d watch ice girls only if there were ice guys.
PLEASE NO ICE GIRLS!!!!!! That would be the worst thing ever!!!!! I wouldn’t go to another Caps game….I like what you guys do with the youth hockey anyway…much classier
Twenty years ago, the Baltimore Skipjacks of the AHL used cheerleaders for one season. The “captain” was the daughter of there sponsor, I think.
My high school baseball coach thought that we should have cheerleaders at our games. Thank Spaghetti Monster that never happened.
We did used the cheerleaders as course markers at cross country meets, though.
I vote no! They’d be a distraction at best. I’d much rather see something hockey related when at a hockey game. Great to see youth players involved. Let the bimbos “dance” at the clubs, where they belong.
Nothing in the rules says I can’t like girls. In fact, some slim girls in tight outfits would emphasize the fact that the players are pretty big and bulky, something that tends to get lost now that they’re all pretty big and bulky.
Who knows, maybe it would even excite the players. The Caps always seem to have some part of their season where they’re pretty low-octane.
I will agree that an intermission break of pee-wee hockey is probably more fun than most sports cheerleaders.
NO NO NO, Ted a thousand times no! I went to a game in Tampa last month and the ice girls are just a joke. they come out to sweep the ice during time’s out and look stupid. focus on more create videos to keep the folks entertained and forget the ice girls.
We do not need Ice Girl. Do not see the point.
Here’s a visual for you Ted:
-No high tech HiDef scoreboard
-no lasers, lights
-no “hockey song”
-no digital effects around the rims of the arena
-no cheerleaders
-WINS and a lot of em
This was the Caps and the Cap Centre in the 80′s and early 90′s….
We win, and they will come.
Quote from blog entry: ‘From an NBA-fan perspective it’s a bit sad to see how much more engaged and knowledgeable the crowd at the Caps game is compared to the Wizards’ fans.’ – I am in my fourth season as a Wizards STH, and their dance team only does a routine once each half, along with scattered appearances at other times. If that’s enough to distract some spectators from the entire match, then those spectators must have frightfully short attention spans generally. Actually I would hazard a guess that the relative lack of engagement by the Wizards spectators would stem more from the fact that our local NBA side has taken on a lot of new fans since they started winning again in 04-05 – not really long enough for any real sense of community to develop…As far as Ice Girls at the Caps, I say BRING ‘EM ON!
More to distract us from bad hockey. Here’s an idea: put a good team on the ice and we won’t need ice girls, and it’ll be easier for us to endure the endless parade of ads we’re bombarded with at VC.
Please no. Hockey does not need cheerleaders. I kinda like how the Caps showcase the youth hockey around the area with the Ice Kids and Mites on Ice. There’s something classy about that.
The Ice Girls should be used as an incentive – win consecutive hockey games or shutout a team or even an individual hat trick. The girls would make the appearance at the following home game for the fans enjoyment. It would be like the players giving back to the fans. Not a sermon…just a thought
Caps Ice Girls hmm? I’m there
No, no, no PLEASE no ice girls, or cheerleaders, hockey does not need them, and I can’t stand the teams that do.
The Richmond Rifles experimented with cheerleaders… It was kinda fun, but it didn’t last…
Fighting… now that is old time hockey… and the fans Love it!
In between periods you could show at least one classic fight by Simon & co. or better yet… My favorite was the ‘stare’ by Langway…. I never saw anyone drop the gloves with him…. he would just stare at them, and they would slowly just skate away…
If Caps decide to have “snow-ho’s” to shovel the “snow” between breaks like in Long Island or Carolina I will cancel my season tickets. Sure they may be nice to look at but they add nothing.
Attention should be paid to the quality of the ice between breaks to make it better for the players.
Having grown up watching an original six team, I fully acknowledge my bias toward tradition in hockey. That said, few things are as hokey or cheesy as ice girls.
Does any sports fan really go to a game based on the entertainment during stoppages in play?
To me, supporting local hockey programs (having the kids to tend the ice between periods) makes more sense if you’re looking to attract lifelong fans.
YES!
PLEASE NO, PLEASE NO, PLEASE NOOOOOO!
I think it cheapens the game. Furthermore, I would be LIVID if some pack of bouncing bimbos blocked my view of the ice. I bet if you polled all of those ice girls, not one could explain the game.
