Martin is making an excellent point with “Cap fans have learned to expect and accept losing. They are even comfortable with it”.
Well I for one am not comfortable with losing… but he is pointing an apathy that is amplified and reinforced by joe benanati being allowed to continue to call the play by play for our Team….
This mindset that Martin exposes, just to help drive home the point, is emblamatic of benaDict-nati’s attitude towards my favorite team…
I am sure benanati is a nice guy… but we don’t seek D-Man or forwards because they are nice guys, who skate over and pat the other guys rump when they score on us do we?
Do we? I just can’t believe something as fundamental towards fan development goes unchanged….
Glad Ovie will be good, hopefully the thigh cut won’t slow him down too much. The loss was tough to swallow since so much else was right about the play last night.
Since the Caps need the 4 points more then the Senators that should me they kick butt, take names and get them – right?
Our former D-man won it too… Gonch giveth and then taketh away. Still, a point is better than none, and hopefully AO is ready to go tomorrow night up in Ottawa.
After the home-and-home with the Sens, the Caps get a trip to Boston (which shouldn’t be too bad) and then Montreal (they got good all of a sudden…)
The renewed enthusiasm under Coach Boudreau is fun to watch. Taking the next 4 points will be a huge boost. Thanks for your continued passion for Caps hockey Mr. Leonsis. Now let’s sign Ovechkin for the long haul!!!
Agreed about the point. And at the end of the season, when we’ll 6-8 points out from the 8th playoff spot, we can commiserate, knowing we were the best team to lose those games by 1 goal. AAWGH! is right. Very frustrating to say the least.
This team seems to have a mental block regarding the Pens, and winning these OT games. Last season it was the same thing.
All we had to do was win that last face off with 7 seconds left to kill on the obligatory penalty called in a Hockey Town for the faithful.
Just win the draw and move the puck up ice… 3-2 win… over the flightless fowl… Caps played a great game, and came back again after giving the first goal…
They were like 0-10 last month after giving up the first they have to be like 4-11-2 now?
Caps have solved Senators before this season and we will again this Weekend. Go CAPS!
Settling for a point is not acceptable. That’s not a champion’s mentality. Ted – with all due respect, please set the highest standard, not a middle of the road one. It is critical that the organization stand for excellence ONLY! CAP fans have learned to expect and accept losing. They are even comfortable with it. Please don’t rubberstamp their defeatist attitude. You are doing things properly in terms of building the organization, and I’m sure it has been very difficult. The next step is to set the right tone with clarity of purpose – winning. Our organization must stand for excellence. And, our team MUST do whatever it takes to win. Anything short of that is not acceptable. Please don’t stray from that message to our players, fans, and the organization. When BB took over in Hershey he had only one purpose in mind. Look at what he accomplished their and at every level along the way. I’m so glad he was upset last night. We have the right guy for that job. Let’s get everyone else, including the fans on board.
Not to be an armchair general here but can you get the squad to practice defensing face-offs they lose in their end? I have watched almost every game this season and it seems they constantly give up good shots and goals off of lost defensive zone face offs, particulary from the right side of the goalie. I’m no pro player, but everybody who plays hockey knows the wingers have to go out and cover the points on a lost face off. Sheesh. We had two points for the taking and the winger, whoever he was, lolly-gags his way out to cover Sydor and Jurcina stands in the slot to block Olie’s view. BB, heal thy defensive zone face offs! That being said, I’ll take the point and hope the Caps channel that disappointment into beating Ottawa not once but twice.
