I don’t even know what to say? We went into enemy territory; played the best team in the East; dominated most of the game; and won 8 to 6. All of our offensive weapons were on display with really great production from Alex Ovechkin, Michael Nylander, Alexander Semin and Nicklas Backstrom. Our fore check worked to perfection. Our power play was world class. We looked quicker and more determined than Ottawa and some of our passes that led to goals were other worldly. Well done.

Our power play was world class. We looked quicker and more determined than Ottawa and some of our passes that led to goals were other worldly. Well done. Yet no lead was safe and to score eight goals and feel like we have gotten lucky to win is really puzzling and you just know that our next game against Ottawa will be a true challenge on New Year Day. We have proven now we can play with the Ottawas and the Detroits. We just need to win consistently and force our will on teams on an ongoing basis. I am very happy now with our productivity on generating points in the month of December. It is our best record since the month of March in 2003 and we are making progress and gaining confidence in our abilities in our team. We showed a lot of talent and a lot of heart last night.
The Caps have played spirited hockey for the past month, even with Chris Clark being out. When they get behind they play that much harder and determined and the penalty kill and power play have improved. Great job against Ottawa the last two games. Too many close games so we can call them the “Cardiac Caps”!
I’m a Sens’ fan and was at the game in Ottawa. One of the most entertaining offensive displays I have seen in a while.
I imagine the coaches will have both teams tighten up defensively for the rematch.
Great game last night and a much better vibe around the team the last 3 weeks! Have you considered making a public statement regarding resigning OV? The rumor mill is growing (Spector’s “insulting 7.5 mil per year to Ovechkin”) and will only get worse. While I know rumors are mostly bunk from writers who don’t have any idea what’s going on, a statement from you that OV isn’t going anywhere would go along way to stopping the talk. Thanks and go CAPS!!
Mr. Leonsis,
I couldn’t agree more. The Caps proved they are a great team by beating the best in the East. Consistency will come. What a game for Ovechkin!! Michael Nylander, Alexander Semin and Nicklas Backstrom also had excellent game. Additionally, give props to Brashear for beating up Neil. This really energized everyone.
GO CAPS!!
Great game by the boys. Backstrom is going to be a star for this team. Ovechkin ended 07 in a great way. Can’t wait to see him in 08 and, hopefully, many many years beyond that.
I think last night was a reason to resign ovie and show the fans they are commited to a playoff season!
great game!
I’d like to know why it is taking you so long to get Ovie signed to a long term contract? Why the delay, which is what it looks like to me. Other teams have signed their stars, what are you waiting for?
The team is making great strides. The new coach is just what the doctor ordered.
I feel good about this team now. First time in a long time that I have.
Props to all for moving coach Boudreau up to take charge of this team. He has the “killer instinct” that we need.
Looking forward to Tuesdays game. For a while I thought the last team with the puck would win.
I can’t believe I missed watching this game on TV. Tuesday will be interesting indeed. Let’s Go Caps!
Ted,
I went to the CAPS web site last night and I listened to the game. It had me on the edge of my seat. It was’nt luck. It was shear determination on the part of whole team. They reached deep and stayed there till the win!!!! WAY TO GO CAPS!
I know what to say… That is the New Caps… We keep this team intact and add a stay at home veteran blue liner… Trade Jurcina and another prospect or draft pick for a veteran.. someone like the ‘Witter’.
Donald could use the help too
why didn’t he get in the top three MVP?
Did I hear my favorite announcer on Fisher’s goal making it 5-4…. “Beautiful Stuff”? That wasn’t what I was thinking… why is it what he is thinking?
Powerplay world class? We gave up 2 shorthanded goals, what was Ovechkin doing at the point in the third with a 2 goal lead, I’ll never know, even the CBC commentators said that was pretty dumb. Caps forechecked well, I agree, but with defense like that, and Olie fighting the puck all night, grab the 2 points and run.
Great game…like the way the team is lpaying right now. If we can string together a couple more wins we’ll be right back in the playoff hunt for the second half of the season.
A good way to end the year showing we won’t let down. But lets start 2008 the right way by resigning OVI its obvious he is this team and he is on pace to set some records. Lets lock him up long term as a Cap!
