It is great to see the local media’s columnists starting to cover us as a team now. We need the coverage and the ink and the pixels to help drive our brand recognition and promote the game of hockey here in the area.

I also attended the Wizards vs. Celtics game last night with a group of 12 people and also met up with Alex Ovechkin and his brother and Alexander Semin and his friend to watch a great game at a sold out Verizon Center.

I also attended the Wizards vs. Celtics game last night with a group of 12 people and also met up with Alex Ovechkin and his brother and Alexander Semin and his friend to watch a great game at a sold out Verizon Center. The Wizards are playing very smart basketball and have proved a lot of skeptics wrong in that we are three games over 500 without Gilbert Arenas and Etan Thomas in the lineup. The team is deep, has lots of talent and is very athletic. To beat Boston felt great. And to see Verizon Center filled to the rafters twice in one day was also a treat.

What a great atmosphere yesterday at Verizon Center for the Georgetown vs. Connecticut game. Our student body was out in force. It was loud and very funny and animated.

I might add that the game was tight and was decided by a three-pointer by Roy Hibbert with 2 .7 seconds left as improbable as that sounds. The game was a sellout and it reminded me of the pure joy of college athletics and how much pride I have in my alma mater. Hoya Saxa.

I remember having to pay corporate welfare to help Canadian clubs in the NHL under the banner of an assistance program. I remember a broker coming to me to sell the Montreal Canadiens on the cheap. The book was being sent around via email to buy the team and an American bought it for a song. That was not that long ago.

 This kind of gloating is unseemly. What goes around goes around. Do you really think the Canadian dollar will always be stronger than the American economy?  These writers are being very disrespectful to our team, our city and the players that surround Alex Ovechkin today. I am certain of our strategic direction as a team. I am confident that we can build a team that can compete for a Stanley Cup. I am certain that Alex’s deal was mentioned on the front page of the Washington Post and was the lead story in the sports front page. Eat your heart out.
