Sorry to be doing this on a post about Britney, but I gotta post.
I’ve been going to Caps games since I was little. My parents split a set of inaugural season tickets and Dad (originally from Buffalo) would take me a couple of times a year. I remember when Bobby Carpenter visited my grade school in Germantown, MD. I cheered “Maruk”, and I’m embarrassed to say I hooted Larry Murphy. I watched a series of defensemen that any franchise would be proud of from Langway to Stevens to Hatcher. I watched Bobby Gould deck Lemieux. I partied in Alexandria the night Joey Juneau arrived (my buddy was from RPI). One night, my dad pointed out Abe Pollin, one night after a game (at the Cap Center) and I briefly got to shake his hand. I cheered when Dale Hunter basically personally kicked every Flyer’s butt in the playoffs. God knows how many times I’ve heard Craig Laughlin squeal “One-timer from the point”. I was torn up about the Red Wings series, but proud about what the club accomplished. Peter Bondra was my great hope for many years. I’ve loved Olie the Goalie from draft night.
I’m now 37. I live in College Park and work in DC (near the Verizon center, in fact). I have a three year old son and I am pleased to say I’ve taken him to a game. I don’t get to see nearly as many games in person as I’d like (a new mortgage and child will do that) but watch on TV when I can.
I’m writing tonight to ask you a small favor: Please let the team know there really are lifetime Caps fans and that we love this team! Ovechkin is just the catalyst – I can see the talent across the team starting to really really grow. There’s a buzz starting to build as real hope comes out of hiding and with a little more success, you could begin to see the crowds that packed the Cap Center in the late 80′s/early 90′s.
I watched tonights game on TV and I’ve got to say, this team is AWESOME! You’ve got a couple of fantastic young guys that will be great for years to come (thank you so much, Alex, for staying). I’m so happy to see a young up and coming club in Washington!

P.S. Someday, I hope to run into you at a game and have MY son shake YOUR hand.
“Our generation had Elvis. My daughter’s generation has Britney.”
*tear* Thanks for the reminder good sir.
(23 year old who hates this generation)
Good god Ted….Elvis at least had talent!!!!
Jumped the Shark?? More like “Jumped the Double Wide”
Who would have thought K-Fed would come out looking like the mature one when it all began???
Your generation had Elvis, mine had Public Enemy & Kurt Cobain and this generation had Britney & Pimp C. (RIP)
