While the NY Times (did you see their shoddy journalism on McCain?!) and other newspapers are definitely losing subscribers, I think saying “print is dead” is hyperbole. If interested, I wrote a blog post tonight that print is not dead: http://lowtechtimes.com/2008/02/21/print-is-not-dead/
Yes, I agree that print publications need to have their e-versions which will increase their circulations. In this digital age, most of the people are looking for instant news and digital version of their print publication is the best process to fulfill this requirement. In addition, with much lower investment publshers can get their daily e-editions instantly.
All of the major news publishers have adopted this technology in order to increase their readers and revenue. In a news expo, I saw a new media services company called Pressmart Media Limited which delivers the digitization services for all print publications and I think these services would help to the print publishers in order to survive in market.
