Tempest in a Teapot

Competition is good. Having two #1 goaltenders is good. Having depth is good. Being focused on winning and making the playoffs is good. We respect Olie. His agent represents him and he should say whatever is on his mind but all that is on my mind right now is making the playoffs and winning. Nothing can and should take us off of that goal. Nothing.

  1. Let’s face it, we have #1, #2 and #3 goalies, where Huet and Johnson are the number one and number two

  2. On the future night when the Capitals retire the number 37, I will be in the stands clapping until my hands ache. Olie Kolzig embodies every positive attribute a fan could want in a professional athlete: accountable, community-minded, affable, competitive to name a few.

That being said, if the Caps need Huet to make the playoffs this year, let’s go all the way with Huet!!

  3. Eventually the team has to make the tough decisions. They can’t always work out like John Elway. The fact we are at a point and in a position to make these tough decisions says quite a bit about where the Capitals are. Its just part of it. Not a single Caps fan wouldn’t want Olie to win 45 games for us and 16 in the Playoffs. But if that isn’t how the story can go to get there, you have to do what is necessary to get to the playoffs and win those 16 games.

  4. From what I can see, Olie will be here as long as he wants to be here. I have to wonder if Olie is pondering making a move with regards to his agent.

I also imagine that Olie will have a place in the Caps organization after his playing days are done. (I can see him being a broadcaster, a goaltending coach, a development coach, assistant GM, etc. etc.)

  5. I agree, we all love Olie and he is a big part of this franchise but we are, all of fans and the team in this to win. If the Caps ever get to a point where moves are made or not made because of loyalty to a player then the entire franchise is in trouble. Great move and keep it up!!! We will be in the playoffs this yera.

  6. Way to go Ted. Hearing you say these things is music to our ears. We all love Olie, and who knows, maybe he will play a big part the rest of the way; but it is George’s job to do whatever he can to win. It’s great to talk this way, this late in the season, we’re getting that same feeling we had back in the mid to late 80′s. Nothing like meaningful hockey games in spring.
