I have never met this writer and never talked to him about my views on player relations. But I have personally been involved with the two largest deals in NHL history: Jagr’s extension for $77 million and the deal we just completed with Alex Ovechkin for $124 million. So I committed almost $200 million to two players and he calls me a "hawk". I just hope I don
Ted, I always thought thet Jagr deal was a bad idea. I’m sure you intentions were good, but I’m afraid you got duped. I truthfully think that Jagr wanted to be traded to the Rangers in the first place from Pittsburgh. When he didn’t get his way, he suckered you into paying him mass quantities of American currency. After he knew he had you by the balls, then he really stopped caring about playing here.
Now, as far as the Ovechkin deal. I feel good about it. Alex has demonstrated that his loyalties are to this team and its fans. He’s proven that he comes ready to win every game and wants to do well.
I only ask for one thing…Please, for the love of God and everything that is good and rightous in hockey…When we make the playoffs, and we have to go thru Pittsburgh…can we PLEASE beat the Pens. I would love to wear my new Caps jerseys well into April, May, and perhaps June.
“No hope”? Check the stats and the record since T-giving. Apparently, someone recognized it wasn’t underachieving when they let Hanlon go and unloaded Jagrmonster. The new system is working, as, in 20 yrs, the Caps have never consistantly outshot their opponents (to name 1 stat)
You had the courage to dismantle and start over when what you were spending hundreds of millions on was never going to work. That is very different from an ownership (like the Minnesota Twins in baseball) that refuses to spend ever. This guy must think Peter Angelos is the model owner – keep spending hundreds of millions with no hope of winning.
I think the only thing you’ll have to consume due to the Ovechkin signing is champagne…served from the Holy Grail. Maybe even this season if things go really well (It’ll be tough though…the Caps are becoming battle tested, but they’re not playoff-tested…yet.)
Teddy “the hawk” Leonsis. Sounds like a wrestling nickname.
I think “hawk” could be a good nickname for you. Or maybe “t-bone”.
