I believe this premise very much. The natural extension of Moore’s Law (faster – better – cheaper -smaller) is to be "free". On the net, everything that is paid for will one day be free. After becoming free, it will evolve to a day where a company pays the customer to use its products. That is next step in the natural evolution. Don
I dont even want free tickets but $9.00 for chicken tenders, $4.25 for a small soda, and $5.00 for icecream and the cost of metro…It would cost me 600.00 a game to take the wife and 2 kids to a game and sit down stairs (FYI: We can go to disney for 7 days for $1600.00)FREE MY A*%
In your case Ted, if sponsors put up enough dough to have all the advertising in the booth, then the tickets could be free. Then everyone buys $20 Papa Johns and $8 drafts so the sponsors make their money back that way. Wait a minute….
In Latin America I think all of the teams are sponsors. Like Cristal in Chile.. but you still pay to get in. I could see that, but one way or another money will be changing hands…
Test your theory on the economics of the Coliseum in Rome…
Not everything proceeds to its “natural extension”, in fact, very few things ever really do. It is this kind of thinking that leads to bubbles (internet, stock market, real estate, tulips, etc) which, upon bursting, ultimately serve as corrections. I don’t believe we will see the “everything is free” natural extension…
Hmmm.
All joking aside about free Caps tix, perhaps there will be a day when tickets to live sporting events may be free, but fans pay for other services to enhance the game.
I’m thinking individual on demand replays, access to other games, special features, stats, etc. along with food and beverage concessions.
There also would probably have to be some type of corporate sponsorship or buy-in to realize free admission.
It’s probably a ways off; until technological advances are realized and become cost-effective.
Ted,
I don’t have Versus in Frederick County so if I can’t watch the game on CSN, I should get free tickets right?
Hey Ted,
Great idea! My wife and I just renewed my season tickets with the Capitals – can you refund my money and pay for my parking? If you do, I promise I will be at every game.
Agreed. I’d like my free tickets to be on the glass, please.
