Manifesto For Management in This New World Order

I was recently interviewed to be on a board of directors of a big public international consumer and media marketing company. I turned down the opportunity but in the interviews, I was asked for a ten point plan for management on what I would do to modernize this concern. Here is the email that I wrote, redacted and shortened for confidentiality.

 What I would do? My ten point plan: 1. I would put the majority of my time and attention into global expansion with a focus on China and India. That is where the growth is.   1. A public company board with more women than men? That would be different! Let’s hope it happens someday.

  2. Ted, for all the talk of China’s economic growth, their entire economy was less than the INCREASE in the US economy in the rebound in the early Bush administration years. Is this not so? Because we have a free(er) market, our potential is always going to be higher for growth and the launchpad in the world than in countries where the government is more controlling and oppressive. India does have a huge middle class. The tech boom has helped India and its inspired, hard-working population so eager to use their abilities.

    With respect to your No. 2 – does your recommendation of the people profile you would load up your company management with really represent the largest audience the company would serve?

  3. Great post, Ted. Number 10 is a really good point for all entrepreneurs. Be brutally honest with yourself – because the market most certainly will be.
