  1. as long as every seat has been paid for it is considered a sellout.

    Whether the person/scalper showed up in that seat at the game is something completely different. thats the difference between attendance and sell out crowds.

  2. Yeah, i know what you mean. I’m from Holland and the same often happens here in domestic soccer. All the papers and magazines for example mentioned that during Ajax Amsterdam-Willem II 49,800 people were present, which means a number close to a capacity crowd (the stadium has 51,200 seats). Watching the game on tv i could clearly see a lot of empty seats. Actual attendance was probably about 40-42,000. Same goes for Feyenoord-VVV. Papers gave an attendance number of 46,000 for that game. The correct number would have been somewhere in between 40-41,000.

  3. look at the Miami Heat. Over half the arena is empty and its 19000+ every time.

  4. No one can trust these attendance figures anymore. The wizards routinely announce sellouts with half the 400 level empty. NHL is also just as guilty of padding the #’s
