These Are The Kind of Articles…

In petroleum-based dying newspapers that drive me crazy! :-) Just lazy reporting not connected to what is happening. Misleading. Poorly researched. And we are trying to market ourselves to Baltimore fans via the Baltimore Sun. l am glad I have a blog so I can respond to these articles.

Here is an article by a writer who I haven

  1. it is a shame when the caps are finally getting to grow together as a team that someone has to always try to add something negative to end the article.i geuss he forgot that the orioles’ attendence has gone down every year since they were anygood!

  2. Ted, it’s a good thing the Baltimore fans aren’t as in the dark as this writer is. I can tell you that I know a lot of people over here in Baltimore that follow your team on a regular basis, and buy tickets to games.

Now that the team is soaring, we’re going to have to buy our tickets ahead of time:) We learned our lesson on Saturday.

  3. I think you’re seeing what the O’s and the Ravens see at the Sun and why they have a very strained relationship. The Post has better/more balanced coverage on the O’s and Ravens then the Sun does. How is that possible??

  4. Ted, keep up the great media push for the Capitals and the reality that this IS a hockey town. Alex Ovechkin and the current crop of GREAT young players will put the Capitals at the forefront of sports achievement in this town. We can thank the dinosaur media model in this town and the mantra from journalists who placed hockey on their low list for this continued sentiment. The sentiment is wrong and you are absolutely right in calling out these lazy and ill-informed reporters.

  5. just want to add that i live in baltimore and it’s super easy to pop down 295, park your car at anacostia metro, and take the green line right to the foot of the arena.

    love baltimore, love the caps.

  6. As a Baltimore season ticket holder let me say that what you have there is a blog entry….very similar to this.

Not wanting to be ridiculed I haven’t sent you emails asking you to move your team back to Landover or better yet Columbia.

The reality of hockey in Baltimore is that there is a base of about 10-15,000 fans. AHL teams always finished middle of the pack in attendance here.

Currently, the city is arguing about what type of arena to build. Some folks want to build one like KC that will sit empty most nights. Others of us would like to see something modeled after the arena in Hershey and an AHL team (maybe the Phantoms as Ed Snyder blows up the Spectrum) as well as the MISL, AFL2 etc to come to town.

You are doing a wise thing by buying ads on sportstalk radio. Pressbox…a FREE local run by Stan Charles also has pretty good reach.

  7. I would have to disagree with him about Ovie carrying the team to the playoffs. This team has made significant improvements since Thanksgiving and everyone is pitching in (especially lately). What about the rest of our Young Guns…they’re the ones that are going to help carry this team to the playoffs. All the negativity and naysayers are really getting old.

  8. What do you expect from a washed up, low-salaried balding reporter?

    Sleez.

  9. Its a shame because the Baltimore Sun used to have a reported assigned to Caps games. The decline of the Sun has been going on for a while since the Tribune is slowly squeezing all its mid-sized papers.

On the bright side, when was the last time that a Baltimore paper wrote about the Caps. I live in Baltimore, and its been a long time. Although this is just a blog from a writer I’ve never heard of before, at least some interest is beginning to build.

  10. Exactly my thoughts Ted. I read this article yesterday and almost emailed the author for being so poorly uninformed.

  11. Notes:

    * Nice picture from last year.

    * Notice the file name on the link: alex_ovbechkin.html

    * I think to write that “story” you just had to watch the Versus commercial about Ovy going for 60 goals.

    * I’m sorry, what’s the “Baltimore Sun”? Interesting.
