Tonight is a Tough Test

We play the Calgary Flames, the division leaders in the Northwest division. They are red hot. They have great goaltending, great defense and are led by Jarome Iginla who is perhaps the most or one of the most complete player in the NHL. I know he is a player for instance that Alex Ovechkin has always admired.

Tonight’s game could actually – statistically – be our toughest test for the remainder of the season. I view tonight and the two games against the Hurricanes as real stiff competition and games that we will have to play our best hockey to get two points.

  1. Teddy, I logged onto the the Caps home page to read they passed the “tough Test”. How sweet it is!! As the coach said it’s one game at a time and nobody wants it more then the team. My family and I saw the Caps/Pen game on TV and you could feel the Caps determination. It was a tough loss. The Caps will enjoy this win tonight and build on it because they are DETERMINED to win a playoff spot. LETS GO CAPS!!!!

  2. Nice to see Olie get #300 tonight. Class act on and off the ice. He’s a lock for the Hockey Hall of Fame.

  3. Ty got it right. Gotta win tonight, and just about every game from here on out. I’ll be there tonight, and I hope Olie gets the start in goal. Go, Caps!

  4. Every game is huge, and this will be a great test for the team.

Let’s hope the OV Cam doesn’t show him getting flattened by Phaneuf! That guy is a head hunter.

  5. Every game from here on out is life or death for this great hockey team of ours. I was disappointed by the losses this past weekend but was absolutely gob-smacked by the biased commentary from the NBC crew. The fan question they chose to answer on the air “Who is the better defensive player, Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin?” and these guys had the gall to say Crosby! Do they even watch this game? Crosby is an elite player to be sure, but he is not the sole savior of the NHL as many media types would make him out to be.

Ted, thanks for doing everything possible to make this a great team. I desperately want to see a playoff game at the Phonebooth this season!

    Go CAPS!

  6. The Caps play best when they are challenged by “the best” (ask Ottawa and NJ.) You make it to the top we kick your ass! the issue is teams we think we can beat. If the Caps play conservative hockey they loose, but if you tell them they cant win they are aggressive and NO TEAM can beat the Caps when they are aggressive.

  7. If I was asked right now who will skate with the Cup in June, I’d say Calgary. They are a complete team, with a great mix of veteran talent, young talent and solid goaltending. They’re probably the only team in the league that has a top 5 player at forward (Iginla) defense (Phaneuff) and in goal (Kipursoff).

Tonight’s game is one that the NHL should have tried to get on national TV as it features two of the five best players in the world (Ovie and Iggy). It will be a great game, and if the Caps play their best and the Flames aren’t quite adjusted from the travel (they had a home game on Monday, where they blasted St. Louis), we could catch them and beat them. If both teams play at their best tonight…it’ll be a great game, but I don’t think the Caps are better than the Flames…yet.

If we do beat them tonight, I would not want to be an Atlanta Thrasher tomorrow…as the Flames will return to their former home and probably do to the Thrashers what General Sherman did in the 1860s (which in turn gave the Atlanta team their name in 1972…)
