We needed to shake off the bad weekend and come out against one of the hottest teams in the NHL and get two points. I was very pleased to see Nicklas Backstrom come out strong and get us on the scoring sheet with a blast from the slot which Kozlov deflected in for our first goal. It was great to see Alex Ovechkin – on OvechKam night – score two goals and the last one being the game winner. And it was a treat to see Olie Kolzig get his 300th career win at home.  Thanks to the near sellout crowd too. You were loud and proud. We appreciate your patronage and support. Go Caps!

  1. Mr. Ted, I also want to congratulate Olie for his 300th win. I am so proud to be a caps fan even from down here in the south. You all got me through a pretty tough time in my life and I am forever grateful. Say hello to the team for me.

  2. Congrats on Olie’s 300th win. Is there a way to give the tribute to CSN so they can show it on Sportsnite for those who were not able to make the game?

  3. Skins Fan – don’t just look at Philly’s schedule, but look at what is happening there. Unlike the Caps who are really starting to come together, Philly is disconnected and no one here seems to know why. I am starting to feel that the loss to Pittsburgh, even though it was a step backward on paper may just be 2 giant leaps forward in regards to giving the CAPS an “it” factor that is needed going into the playoffs. From the top down, that one loss seems to have bonded this team more than a victory. I feel really, really good about the Caps chances – not just this year but going forward!! GO CAPS!!

  4. An idea in response to Andrea’s post.

I wanted to buy Dallas Cowboys tickets to go to a game this year. The tickets went on sale to the general public on, let’s say, July 1. You needed to have a specific zip code for the ticketmaster transaction to proceed. On July 8, the zip code restriction was no more. Also, there were no more tickets. This would limit fans from other teams access to these games. Of course, Caps fans would need to snap the tickets up during the exclusive period.

  5. What a great night to catch the Caps! Ovechkin on a roll and Olie was awesome. The tribute to Olie was classy. I was also happy for Backstrom; the way he got off to a strong start. It’s always fun to be present for a victory.

  6. I’m sure you’ve looked at the schedules of Boston, Philly and Carolina. I think if we win at least 7 of last 11 with a win over Boston i really like our chances of getting in. Take a look at Philly’s schedule(lots of tough games left). I have a good feeling about this team making it this year.

Great win last night! Hopefully another big one against Thrashers. I’ll be there Sunday. Go Caps!

  7. How do you know that what you’re doing in life is worthy and will lead you to where you want to be? When the arena stands on their feet and shout “OLIE!” Congratulations Olie!

  8. Ted,

Any thought to bringing in Denis Maruk when Ovie gets to 60? Heard him on XM and thought it might be a good idea. 60 goals has stood as a CAPS record for 26 years. I was at last nights game and it was fantastic! Very energetic atmosphere. Gives one the feeling of what a playoff game might be like (especially with Ovie getting a game winner).

  9. Congrats to Olie! What an accomplishment! (And that poll about him on NHL.com has so many great accomplishments by him that I can’t vote!)

Olie better still be around next season!

  10. That tribute to Olie last night was awesome…I’m glad so many fans were there to celebrate with him…I wish I could have seen more love for him and his accomplishment in the media though! The Washington Capitals are definately the sleeping giants…we’ll be unstoppable for years!

  11. Damn if the refs did not seam to get the message last night….We were pretty loud and they obviously had to re-think the meaning of fair.

And Bless you Andrea we need a better showing of caps fans in the building. I have never been to an away game but I will bet fans in other arenas never have to put up with outside fans like we do!!!

  12. Hi Ted,

With me, many fans are enthusiastic about the Caps this year, playoffs or not. With some adjustment, we can be even better next year!

Question: I was at the Pens game last Sunday. Is there a chance to delay the selling of ticket to them and give priority to Wash next year?

    thanks!

    Andrea

  13. That was great effort. The Caps got all kinds of shots at Kiprusoff in the second and third and if not for his heroics (he should have been 3rd star although it’s hard to argue with Ignila) the Caps could have won by 4 or 5.

Congratulations to Olie Kolzig on #300! One more and he ties Mike Richter with 301 wins. One after that and he has 302… and Richter is almost certain to go into the Hall of Fame. :)

  14. After Sunday’s brutal loss, I left the arena not even wanting to talk to my husband. He convinced me to go to last night’s game (party because of the business card promotion – which was a great idea) and I’m so glad. The crowd was fantastic (especially for a Wednesday) and the game was high energy. And what a bonus to see Olie’s 300th win.
