Nice Win Over a Divisional Foe

Atlanta always plays us tough and we needed that win to capitalize on the game in hand on Carolina. Check. I don’t like looking at the scoreboards. I just want us to focus on taking care of our business and keep on winning and then let the chips fall where they may. If we keep winning, we will put pressure on some teams. We can sneak up on them and hopefully start to pass some in the standings. We have three weeks left in the season. Sunday is a huge game. We need the win to provide momentum as we go out on the road for a six game road trip. For those who emailed me if you had an issue finding the game on DirecTV out of market, for some reason it was shown on the NHL Network channel. I don’t know why I should apologize but I shall for the inconvenience.

  1. The game against Atlanta was a complete effort by the Caps from the opening faceoff to the final horn. The only glitch was the shot by Slava Kozlov of Atlanta on the powerplay that beat Olie, and even then, if Olie is covering for that shot, he’s out of position. It was a good shot and Kozlov made it.

I never had any doubt that the Caps would win the game they way they dominated play, it was just how many goals could they get past Lehtonen (who was also brilliant in goal for them). The Caps got 4, but also hit the crossbar twice (both by Alex Ovechkin no less) and the post once.

12 shots against… that’s playing near perfect defense. I looked at the ESPN shot chart for the game afterwards and of Atlanta’s 12 shots, three were from behind the blue line (one of those was from behind the center red line!). So they had only 9 shots in the attack zone. The Caps, by contrast got all 37 of their shots on goal inside the blue line (and those don’t include the post and crossbar hits, since they’re not on goal!).

We’re going to the playoffs, I can feel it.

  2. Every game against Carolina is our game in hand.

However – with that win coupled with a Canes loss, the Caps now have “Control of their own destiny”

If the Caps win out, there’s nothing anyone can do to take the South East division away.

    Go Caps, indeed.

  3. all any fans have to do to find the caps game out of market is filter their search on their receiver to search for hockey only and they would have had no problem finding the game. i have directv…people who want to find the game bad enough can spend five minutes doing the legwork. its not your job.

  4. Gary Bettman and the NHL are very aware of these games that are on the NHL Network not being shown on Center Ice… and they have done nothing to fix it. They are making it harder and harder to turn new people onto the game of hockey… you have to work to find these games on TV!! And most people don’t even get the channels that they are on. Something needs to be done about it.

  5. Hi Mr. Leonsis just wanted to say that I thought the way that the t-shirts were thrown out at the game last night was something different and pretty cool. Give the promotional guys a pat on the back for it.
