Two Steps Forward – One Step Back

We played very well last night. We got two points but Carolina tied the score in regulation on a funky goal and also got a point. So we are now four points behind them with five games left to play and with one game against them next Tuesday night. Carolina’s first goal was also a gift off of Boyd Gordon’s skate.

Carolina’s first goal was also a gift off of Boyd Gordon’s skate. Boston and Philadelphia also won last night so we didn’t gain ground on them although we did put a little bit of distance between Buffalo and Florida and us. Congratulations to Alex Ovechkin for scoring his 61st goal of the season, a new Caps record for goals scored. I thought our team was sharp and focused last night. Two more games on the road this week and then we come home for the last home stand. I am hopeful we can have three sellouts to end up the season, too.

  1. Anytime you can pick up two points on the road it was a good night. It was just unfortunate that the Caps couldn’t win it in regulation because they deserved to. I was just glad to see the fire and passion back after 4 games where it wasn’t there for a full 60 minutes.

  2. The Caps are clearly the better team. There is no reason in the world why the Caps should not win all 5 remaining games. If they end up with 94 points and that isn’t enough, then so be it.

  3. Ted,

I hope we can pack the house for the last 3 even if we don’t do that well on the next two roadies. C’mon fair weather fans, be there for the team no matter what.

What are the chances of signing the newly acquired guys that are all unrestricted free agents after the season? I’d love to see Christobal Huey here next year (but we all still love Ollie).

  4. I was at the game last night – drove down from DC to see a friend and go to the game.

Both of Carolina’s goals were flukes, and while they did mount some pressure at the end of the third, the Caps deserved the win.

    Five games and counting.

  5. Yeah, they got some flukey goals, but in the end, Cam Ward stole that point for them. He was outstanding. Still, you can’t be too disappointed with 2 points…

Now someone has to beat Philly, Boston or Carolina to help us out!

  6. Ted:

Strangely enough, despite living in sunny Puerto Rico I have been a Caps fan since I attended GW Law School for my Masters degree almost 12 years ago. I was fortunate enough to watch in person the team lose to Detroit in the Stanley Cup finals at the only game played at the Verizon Center (my first time there). Last month I dragged my wife to see the Caps OT win over the Rangers as part of a business trip to DC. Two very different teams, two very different eras. What an exciting team you’ve managed assembled. I wish you much success this year and that it translates into more national TV coverage (outside the suspect Versus). I’m rooting for you guys all the way from Puerto Rico to make the playoffs. Good luck!

  7. IT’S SO HARD TO WATCH THE CAPS PLAYING THIER COLLECTIVE HEARTS OUT AND THE HOCKEY GODS PLAYING CRUEL TRICKS ON THEM WITH RESPECT TO THE OTHER TEAMS ALREADY IN THE HUNT. IF THEY DO NOT MAKE IT, I SURE HOPE IT DOES NOT DEMINISH ANY ASPERATIONS FOR NEXT YEAR. THE NEW COACH HAS DONE WONDERS WITH THE TIME HE HAS HAD.

  8. Great game last night. We had many shots on net where we could’ve closed this one out during regulation, but their goalie and ours are just spectacular. Both of their goals were flukes to say the least. I hope our guys can finish off the road trip strong against teams we are capable of dominating and bring back hopes for the playoffs to the fans, keeping Ted’s mailbox of nothing but “Congratulatory!” emails.

  9. i hope that no one missed the celebration by the team and coaching staff last night.what ever the out come of the season turns out to be ,as a fan i am happy to see the amount of enthusiasm displayed.it shows that the team is finally becoming a cohesive unit.

  10. Ted, I really want your team in the playoffs. You’ve been very patient with the rebuild and deserve this.

I love what coach Boudreau has done since he’s taken over. You or George McPhee should get Executive of the Year award for hiring him. Let’s go Caps!
