Here is a good article on a veteran superstar player who understands how important making the playoffs will be to our franchise and to the maturation process of our team. We are very grateful to Sergei Fedorov for the focus he has brought to our locker room and how he is playing like a second coach out on the ice. He is doing all of the little things needed to win and is providing great energy to our second line. Our trade deadline deals adding Fedorov and Huet and Cooke have all been very helpful to us. We are working hard and playing well as a team in spite of having so many regulars out of our lineup – Nylander, Clark, Pothier, and Steckel – jump to mind. Tonight is our last road game of the year against a desperate Florida team. All of our focus needs to be on one last stand on the road to garner two points. Then we come home for the final three home games. The season’s push to the playoffs will probably be contingent on every single game remaining in the season, one final four game push.
lock him up!
When I thought about the Fedorov deal, I thought he’d be here for this season and then either retire or move on to greener pastures.
In actuality, the three players brought in all have been players I’d love to see stick around for next year. Hopefully the environment and possible future here will be enough to keep Sergei, Matt and Cristobal here for 2008-09 and beyond.
Fedorov was a great pick up.
GMGM was money on that one. Fedorov brings so much more to the table for a young team like the Caps. His face off wins and smooth slick passing have prove to be timely. Just what the doctor ordered for this playoff push.
Huet is proving so far to be a Godsend just dropping into our laps like he did.
And Cooke is the grit we needed for this push.
IMO 3 great moves by GMGM.
I would like to see all three stick around and be here next season.
I hope the Caps can work it out so Sergei finish his career in DC. I was wondering what he had left when you made the deal but he’s proven to be a key acquisition down the stretch.
Anytime you can get someone whose name is on the Cup like Federov’s is at the deadline sure helps a young team like the Caps. Go get ‘em tonight Caps!
It looks like Boston is about to beat Ottawa. Now all of a sudden Ottawa is in play. If they only win 1 of their last 3 we could jump over the Sens. Sounds crazy but we have quite a few ways to get in as long as we continue to win.
I have faith in this team. So many great comebacks and the determination to fight back into contention. I believe we get in. It might take a 4 game sweep of the remaining schedule but i believe this team can do it.
We might sweat it out to the very last day but have a feeling the Caps will find a way in.
LETS GO CAPS!! GOTTA BELIEVE!
I hope that we find a way to sign Sergei for the next year. If he could play D one time in Det then it’s not going to be a problem to put him on the right wing of our top or second line.
Go Caps!!!
which is EXACTLY why you HAVE to RE=SIGN him
Ted, I know you guys have to be thinking about offering Feds another year IF he’s interested in coming back?
In only a few short weeks he’s become a fan favorite, and has really brought a ton of leadership that we’d been missing.
1 more year, 1 more year, 1 more year, 1 more year. . . keeping him along with Nylander gives us hockey’s version of a Swiss Army Knife.
Ted, I think GMGM and the rest of the coaching staff need to be congratulated on what as a fan albeit in the UK has kept me glued to the net, either listening to games or reading some fantastic blogs like yours or Japers Rink or Onfrozen Blog to name a few. The excitement generated from this drive to the playoffs has everyone believing (Journeys song now a staple in the locker room). Whatever the outcome it has been a successful year, if we miss the playoffs I am not sure what else we could have done. Whether it’s the incredible run of the other teams in the division like Carolina or the dreaded three point nights that have hurt us or the sometimes inconsistent officiating, you cannot fault the efforts of either the team or the staff. I do sincerely hope we make it in, I strongly suspect none of the three teams vying for first place would want to meet us in the first round. But if we don’t lets not forget the strides we have made from last year, meaningful games rather than playing for pride into April, seasoned veterans excited to play here (like Feds), and a playing style that quite frankly is exciting to watch where we can come back from two and three goals down and still win without playing a trap style that made the last few seasons pretty boring to watch. I for one am keeping the faith, heres to three home sellouts with a sea of red white and blue to greet our SE rivals, and fans cheering the boys on to the promised land.
GEE Ted, what a class act. His presence gets me so fired up. That face off he won to get the puck to Semin that tied the score was pure hockey art. I would hope he has two or more years left in the tank. I could think of no better player/coach for the young make up of our current roster. Keep up the good work and God Speed. Biggest Cap Fan in PA.
