George Michael – Proof That No One Knows Nothing

I saw George Michael on NBC a couple of weeks ago and I think he actually said…"Caps ain’t going to the playoffs and Ovechkin ain’t getting MVP". Whoops.

  1. Sure, George got it wrong but “Experts” get things wrong all the time-he just sounded like a fool when he made the prediction. There were many people who thought the Caps wouldn’t make the playoffs and Ovie wouldn’t get the MVP. George is a legend and always provided great Caps coverage and shouldn’t be called a fool for making one silly remark.

  2. This is exactly why I listen to Elliot on DC101 every morning. His passion for the Caps and interest in hockey in general have been a big part why I listen to his show. Not to mention Roache has been plugging away for the Caps and talking about them this season too!

It’s been a long interesting season. I’m happy we made it to the playoffs but this team is poised to possibly motor right through the ranks. That said, I’m not gonna thank you just quite yet. A large challice awaits this team.

  3. George Michael? I hadn’t thought about him after he left WHAM! back in the 1980s. What’s he been up to?

  4. For the record on George’s retirement:

If you recall, he chose retirement rather than sign a contract that would force him to lay off staffers. And he was showcasing Caps highlights on the Sports Machine 25 years ago (the days of Gartner, Carpenter and Langway), long before some current fans were born and ESPN became a household name.

He has a big mouth, but give the guy a break. He’s not evil. :-) He probably said the 5-6 Redskins had no shot to make the playoffs this year either. :)

  5. George can take his Spurts Machine and leave DC! He hasn’t been relevant in this town for a decade!

  6. Tell Sir Donald to get some work on the ‘ol speed bag because it’s going physical series and he will being pounding Cote’s head soon enough. I watched the game last week against the Pens and Philly, Philly went after sissy boy Sidney with alot of cheap shots.

  7. How can you not like the Caps’ chances in the playoffs. If you look all consecutive 7 game sets since Bruce took over the reins at thanksgiving, only twice did the Caps have a losing set. Couple that with the tear the team and the fans have been on since January 1st . . ?

  8. hey ted. props for you to let george go out and get who he needed to get at the deadline. this team is in the playoffs now with the cup in mind. if it weren’t for you we would still be at the bottom looking up, no were the complete opposite. this team will reward you with a long run in the playoffs. Boudreau for coach of the year. go caps go.

  9. but tony and michael wilbon also said on the show ovie the great isn’t going to be mvp if we dont make the playoffs. CAPS PROVED THEM WRONG TOO.

  10. Ted, if you do invite that sad sack to your box, have a three-course meal prepared for him. First, he can start by eating his words. Then, let him move on to the main course, and eat crow. And for a sweet finish, you can serve him a nice warm humble pie.

  11. Off topic, I live in South Carolina now and I’m usually able to make it up for 1 game a year. This week I will be making my second trip of the season…Thank you…As a caps fan since I was 6 and listening to the games on the radio I can honestly say I’ve never been as proud of a Caps team as I am this year with these young guys. Thank you Ted, thank you George, and thank you Olie. Can’t wait for game 1. Good Luck

  12. Lets see how long it takes for all the media pundits to jump on the band wagon now.

Sad when local media can’t even support the home team.

Morale of the story Georgie…If you don’t have anything good to say keep your trap shut!!

  13. I saw George Michael say that you and he had a parting of the ways. What was that all about?

  14. Not many people outside of VERIZION CENTER the last couple of weeks BELEIVED what was going inside & believed it was just a slow death {except boston & philly who tho playing their best hockey all season kept looking at the standings & seeing us not going away!& were forced to play that way!now its phillys turn to beleive!

  15. With all due respect to Mr. Michaels, if it ‘ain’t’ Redskin related, he ‘ain’t’ paying any attention. Now that we’re in the playoffs, I wonder how guys like Melrose will actually fall in the Hart trophy discussion.

P.S. Thanks Ted for sticking with the plan. I am so proud to be a Caps Fan!

  16. That isn’t proof that no one knows nothing. That is proof George Michael nows nothing which isn’t anything new. Especially of hockey.

  17. local media coverage is terrible. good to see local writers jumping on the bandwagon.

  18. Ted, George lost it a long time ago.

On another note (unrelated to George), I was at the game against Carolina on Tuesday and was sitting in section 101, two rows in front of you. Near the end of the game, I yelled something to you (I doubt you heard it…and I doubt you remember this) and you looked back at me and extended your fist for a nice knuckle tap. It made the evening complete for me.

Congratulations on a great season and may it continue on for another four series culminating with Lord Stanley residing in Washington.

  19. Ted, can you send him a picture of Ovechkin kissing the Hart Trophy after the awards show in June?? And if anyone has his email address, I’d like to send him a link to his absurd rant on TV.

  20. Well George, ain’t ain’t a word so you ain’t gotta say it!

By the way, I was at the game last night. Best time I’ve EVER had at a Caps game! It was a night I’ll never forget.

  21. There is a reason why he no longer does sports. You should offer him a seat in your box; put him on the jumbotron for all of us fans to boo the man.

  22. Saw that and actually emailed you about it. I couldn’t believe a local media guy saying that, and the way he said it. He owes the Caps a big ‘ol apology! Was great motivation if the Caps saw it though. :)

  23. George Michael is a buffoon. His sportscasts are filled with horse shows, NASCAR and other things HE personally cares about. His REALLY BAD “George Michael SportsMachine” ended its run what, a year or two ago? So well into the 2000′s he was still broadcasting a show that looked like it was lost in the 1970s. George Michael = Consider the Source.

Also, Georgie constantly berrated the Nats and never wanted them here. What a goof!!!

  24. Yeah, and George ain’t getting a regular evening gig on TV anymore either.

    WHAM!
