Tough Emotional Loss

As is noted within, “It is not over.”

As is noted within, "It is not over." Our team is bigger and tougher than the Flyers. They know it now and we know it now. We now know how to play playoff hockey, NHL style. We have figured out what the refs will call and not call except for the random bad call like the final penalty called on Kozlov driving to the net. Yesterday’s game was a great one all except for the final outcome. We saw two determined teams. We saw 85 plus shots on goal. We saw some young and inexperienced players step up and grow up. Onward to Saturday. We can’t look back, only forward to a home game and to get back into the series.

  1. Something really needs to be done regarding the penalty calls or not calls! The desired outcome wasnt there for us last night but neither were the officals. Ted as a owner couldnt there be some argument brought to the NHL?!?

  2. IT IS FAR FROM OVER TED

EVERYBODY ON SATURDAY NEEDS TO ROCK THE RED AND ROCK THE HAWK

    LETS GO CAPS

WE KNOW WE’RE BETTER AND WE CAN BEAT THEM

START THE GAME OFF ON SATURDAY WITH THE “IT’S NOT OVER” VIDEO AND UNLEASH THE FURY IN THE FIRST.

  3. Watched the game last night, it was the best they have played in the series and deserved to win….I will be cheering them on SATURDAY and never give up that they can win, Look what happended to the Yanks when they were 3-0. We have 2 at home so we can win!

  4. How is it possible that Briere still has teeth?

He reminds me of little tough guy Grover Gill hiding behind Farcas in ‘The Christmas Story.’ Always hiding behind a team mate or a ref with is little spears and punches.

    Great game otherwise. Go Caps.

  5. That game is what I’ve wanted to see since this series began…the Caps playing with the heart that got them to the playoffs. Even though they lost, it was a great game. Let’s go Caps!

  6. It’s not over ’till it’s over…we really stepped up last night…it actually never even occured to me that we could lose! I am so proud of this young team for getting in there and scrapping after two very tough losses…they definitely have shown everyone what they are really made of and have proven once again why they are so worthy of our unwavering support. And thanks to you to Ted, for always believing, no matter what anyone else might have said or thought.

  7. One of the most entertaining games I have ever seen. The guys on TSN said it was the game of the year. Gutsy performance by the boys. Not sure we are tougher than the Flyers though. Our D has a long, long way to go.

  8. Congratulations, Ted. Your team took a big step forward as a team last night. You used the word determination. Yes. Even if the series doesn’t ultimately end up with the desired result (and it’s not over yet) – I think some of the young players learned valuable lessons that will pay back for many years to come.

  9. DUDE THE FINAL PENALTY WAS TOO MANY MEN ON THE ICE…THAT IS THE CALL THE FLYERS TIED IT UP ON..I GUESS YOU JUST WANT SOMTHING TO BITCH ABOUT.. I KNOW THIS IS NOT OVER..QUIT YOUR MOANING..

  10. We need three in a row….It can’t be done?!?! The Flyers just did it to us, now it’s our turn. Lets get it started!!!

  11. Ted-

NHL officiating is truly in a bad way right now. What is a penalty? What is not a penalty? I’m sure both the Caps and even the Flyers have no clue.

  12. Put a big Caps logo up in the sky and send for Dale Hunter, Batman style. We need his energy to pump up the crowd. Can Hunter sing God Bless America?

  13. I just want to say to any of the fair weather fans who now are selling their tickets and OPENLY saying they would sell to Flyer fans, show some class and support. These guys deserve it. They gave us 4 great months of hockey, you can come out and support them at a time when they likely need us the most. Don’t show up only when times are good. Thats not being a fan, that is jumping on the bandwagon when it is convenient. To think for one SECOND that this team can not win 3 games in a row if just foolish. Have you not seen enough to believe?

    Very sad..

  14. It was a tough game, but Biron came up when he needed to in the 4th, and in the 5th, Knuble got away with a very minor goaltender interference (minor in that he didn’t plow through Huet) in order to get his shot into the net.

The officiating stunk last night, both ways. They were letting things go that in the regular season would have been called, in some cases as double minors. Not calling the highstick when Semin got hit was inexcusable, ditto for the call on Kozlov when Timonen pushed him into his own goaltender. At the same token, they missed a blatant charge or boarding (or both) when he blasted into Sami Kapanen.

I guess the Caps are going to have to get more physical with Biron in Game 5. Not that I advocate dirty play, but as they used to say “If you can’t beat them in the alley, you can’t beat them on the ice…”

  15. Caps can still win this series most definitely. As Bruce Boudreau said we deserved a better fate last night. We deserved to win and i was encouraged by last nights performance. I was glad Backstrom stuck up for his team and that fight kinda said we are here to play.

We have been pushed into a corner so many times this year and scrapped and clawed our way back.

This team can do it. Just have to win three in a row. Right now Saturday is the only thing that matters. Flyers have blown 3-1 leads on a few occasions so we CONCEDE NOTHING. LET’S GO CAPS!

  16. This team proved at the end of the year that they are up to the task of winning consecutive games. I really believe they have it in them to come back and win the next 3 games in a row. Lets go CAPS!!!!!

  17. Ted, I’m glad you know what the refs will and won’t call, because I’m totally cobfused. For example, I always thought when you hit a player in the mouth with your stick and draw blood, that’s a four minute penalty. But I guess, since it happened twice last night and no call was made I must be mistaken.

  18. Tremendous game, and great effort and desire. They played Caps hockey for the entire game. We can all be proud of our guys. They brought their ‘A’ game. Win or lose the series, this is a team to be reckoned with in the future.
