Stay Humble – Stay Hungry

Tonight is Game 7 at Verizon Center, Caps vs. Flyers. This is what we wanted and hoped for: A 7th game to be played in front of a red army of fans that are loud and proud.

We worked very hard last night to bring home a Game 7 but we must remember that the Flyers have a great team and they will be hungry, angry and will come to play. This will be the most intensely played game of the year for us. We must remain focused on our team goals.

We haven’t won anything yet. We must remain in the moment, dignified and come to play.

Thank you in advance for coming and supporting our team tonight. You are the true unsung heroes for our franchise. You will bring our team hope, energy and class. Let’s go Caps!

Hey Ted, please tell me someone had the forsight to fly Dale Hunter out for the game and he say a few words to whip the crowd into a frenzy before they drop the puck! That is about the only thing I can think of that would make this game anymore exciting than it already is. Getting ready to leave work to head down to the phone booth. :)

  3. I CANT SEE THE GAME TONIGHT!!! =( I’m so bummed, I have to take a practices SAT from 5-9:30 therefore I’m going to miss the most important caps game in 10 years. WHAT DO I DO?

  4. Section 413 Row J Seats 18 and 19; we’ll be there wearin the Red!

    Let’s Go CAPS!

  5. Ted,
I wanted to share with the CAPS organization something a little unusual. My dad, who loved hockey and followed the CAPS loyally, passed away this past Sunday morning after a difficult illness. He was 85. My two sons played high school hockey, and he always tried to make their games. He simply loved the game and those who played it. Over the last few weeks, we gathered at their retirement home in their apt. to enjoy the inspiring play of the Caps, whose tenacity and never-give-up spirit inspired my dad and us. With each of their victories we felt our spirits lift also. Although he didn’t live to see them win their game 7, I know he’s watching from that big stadium in the sky tonight and cheering them on. I’m sure many of the fans in the stadium tonight at game 7 will have similar stories of what the Caps mean to them. I will be there tonight, cheering them on for both myself and my dad. . . GO CAPS!!!!!

  6. It’s all about the journey, one game at a time. Gee that sounds like a combination quote from “Coach B” and owner “Ted Leonsis”!! I know THE CAPS will stretch, focas, and play with their usual RELENTLESS and FEROCIOUS detemination as a team! And I do beleive!!! LETS GO CAPS!

  7. OK, while it would be nice to have Dale Hunter in the arena, I think I’d rather have Tom Green in person to say “UNLEASH THE FURY.” Or, why not both?

  8. I started getting sick last week right around game 3(no joke very bad allergies). Almost slept/ rested nostop until game#5. Didn’t start feeling better until Sunday now i am about 100% and feel better than ever. Still looking for a tix tonight but i am so happy with the position the Caps are in.So proud of this team! What a group of fighters. LET’S GO CAPS!!

  9. Mr. Leonsis,

Tonight Is the Night! The CAPS grit, determination, and heart that they have played with to get this far will be on display. The Game 6 comeback to win 4-2 was great. The comeback kids lead by Alexander “The Great” Ovechkin along with Nicklas Backstrom, and Alexander Semin and the veteran presence of Brashear, Fedorov, and the entire team. Contributions from all around made this possible. But the comeback is not over, the Caps will make it the 21st time that a team trailing a series 3-1 will win. We will WIN! I wish I was going to be in the sea of red!! GO CAPS!!

  10. I will donate money towards the airfare if you can get Dale Hunter to attend tonight. :)

  11. like we said “it ain’t over till its over”. ..thank you and the organization for doing what you’ve done to put this exciting group of first class players and people together. . !! .. .and to echo what the fan above said, lets make sure that tickets go to the “right” zip codes if we win!!. . ..

    ROCK THE RED!!!!!!!!!!

  12. We’ve won 4 additional home games, if nothing else. This team is rocking and fun to watch, patience has finally paid off. Regardless the outcome of tonight, what a great season of unexpected resiliency.

The only thing better would be to take out Pittsburgh in 6 games (because we don’t want to give them an extra home-game sales boost!)

  13. Incredible comeback by the Caps. Nothing stops this team.

Kozlov’s feed to Ovechkin for the goal to put the Caps ahead reminded me of the series winner in ’88 vs the Flyers–Murphy to Hunter, a shot and a GOAL!

  14. I agree with Dan…bring on Dale Hunter! We need him like we needed him in ’88!!

  15. Win or lose tonight, Caps can be proud of their season and Caps organization can be proud for a job well done.
That being said, a win tonight is a step closer to the Cup. Nevermind about this being a learning process, I look at other teams and this team is as good if not better when playing with intensity. The Cup this season?
    Why not?

  16. TED – This day is going by way to slowly. Please do speed up time, and oh yeah, send me free box tickets for next season.

j/k, but seriously, is it 7:00 yet?

  17. Thanks for keeping us all grounded Ted, despite our urges to float around on Cloud 9. I was really proud of our boys after the game last night…they didn’t celebrate too hard after the win, knowing that this battle has not quite been won yet — you knew they were already thinking about what they need to do tonight.

    Go CAPS…keep believing!!!

  18. Thanks Ted for the great season and being such a great owner! Since I will be rocking the red tonight at the VC does anyone know what promotional item(s) they will be giving out or should I just bring my thunder sticks again?

    C-A-P-S CAPS CAPS CAPS

  19. Is there anyway possible you can fly in Dale Hunter for the opening tonight????

  20. So nice to enjoy a playoff chase and only worry about hockey. DON’T have to worry about Jagr’s pining for his ex-girlfriend; DON’T have to worry if Adam Oates is pouting, etc. Stay classy, DC, and Let’s Go Caps.

  21. Played hooky yesterday from work and attended the game in Philly. What an atmosphere and what a win coming back from 2 down. I am in a wheelchair, so I was in the accessible seating section (by the way, Verizon Center has way better accessible seating, since every time Philly fans stood up, I couldn’t see a thing – Verizon has line-of-sight seating everywhere). The fans around me were respectable and joking with me about my allegiance. I was pretty low key, not screaming unless we scored. I think if you show respect, you can get it in return. Got tickets to tonight’s game. Can’t wait. Philly looked tired and the energy our young guys have shown through. I expect Philly to be worn out and I think the Caps have a great chance. GO CAPS! Also, thanx Ted for your wonderful comments on this blog about a wide range of subjects. I enjoy your take on business and sports.

  22. My, my Miss Twiddle! For the first time ever, the Comeback Caps. Who’da thunk!

    You go, Ted!

  23. Thanks, Ted, for putting in the energy and resources to bring us a winner! Good luck tonight; go Caps!!!!

  24. Indeed Ted, the Caps need to keep doing what they did last night, only moreso. Philly’s back is now at the wall as well. I have no doubt the Caps have the momentum and can come out and blast the Flyers.

  25. Any chance Dale Hunter will be in attendance to bring the team a little good karma since he scored the game 7 winner against the Flyers 20 years ago? That would be really cool.

  26. ….This is what playoff hockey is all about. Last night was one of the most exciting edge-of-the-seat games we have watched in our 20 years as Caps fans.Good luck tonight and bring it home! Our red is already on! ….and P.S…..Thanks for being a dynamite owner…none better in pro sports!!

    Mark and Cindy

  27. If somehow we manage to win tonight…

Please, please do whatever you can to ensure that Caps fans — and not Penguins fans — get as many tickets as possible to the series.
