Ted, the noise pumped in through the speakers last night made sitting through what should have been a fantastic experience pretty unpleasant. I have been to many caps games and have NEVER had to deal with that kind of noise from the speakers (the fan noise was perfectly fine). You keep that up and you’re going to get a lot of DC lawyers pretty pissed off with their new short term and possibly permanent hearing loss.
Again, I have no problem with fan noise and a reasonable level of noise from the loudspeakers. But, last night was totally over the top. I will not return to Verizon Center for a caps game until this is addressed. I’m happy to get excited and yell and scream, etc. Not happy to be subjected to an unbelievably unhealthy and dangerous decibel level from the loudspeakers.
And the loss sucked, too.
Hey Ted,
Though our eyes are as red today as the prevailing color in the “booth” last nite, we Caps fans (myself since ‘84, my husband since ‘74) are so very grateful for what became the sweetest emotional journey we’ve had in 10 years!
Please give all the boys our heartfelt thanks & move quickly to get “Bouds” signed !!! Love our Caps !!! Kat.
Ted. You are the man. Best owner ever! But yeah, the speakers were definitely too loud last night. See you in October. GO CAPS!
Ted, I echo the sentiments about the speakers. I went to Game 1 and Game 7, both times left with my ears ringing for hours afterwards. Crowd noise is great, but no need to “enhance” it with the speakers.
Also, I was pretty embarrassed to witness how a few fans reacted to the loss by throwing beer bottles, among other things, onto the ice. Many that were thrown missed their target, one landed right by my feet and was still half full. If that had hit someone in the head…
I don’t know how we can prevent that sort of thing from happening again, but maybe requiring all vendors to fill plastic cups rather than using bottles will at least be a little safer.
Other than that, I’ve definitely enjoyed attending games this year and look forward to another great season in 2008-2009!
Washington, D.C., finally caught on to what I’ve been saying here for two seasons: Ovechkin is the most talented, exciting and compelling athlete in Washington, D.C. There is no Redskin, Wizard or National who comes close. If there is one unsold ticket to any Caps home game next season, the team should immediately be moved to Winnipeg. Owner Ted Leonsis could get 16,000 15-year season-ticket agreements in one day from NHL-hungry Manitobans if Ovechkin came to town. Money and jobs are tight, so I hope the Caps can get creative in their sales office; but their goal should be to sell every ticket before opening night in October. Go door to door, set up a booth at the mall, have a bake sale. SELL EVERY TICKET BEFORE OPENING NIGHT!
