If You Think Backstrom is the Best Rookie…
Thursday, April 24th, 2008I Hope He is Right
Thursday, April 24th, 2008I hope we can sell every ticket to every game next season. Please help us keep the magic at Verizon Center. We showed the world what great fans we have and how the building looks with a sea of red. You are all so loud and proud. If you haven’t renewed your season tickets, please do so now. If you have a partial plan, please consider upgrading to a full season ticket package. If you bought single tickets to playoff games, please consider getting a plan. We need your ongoing help. The team will only get better and better. Please join us now!

Thursday, April 24th, 2008We Still Need to Catch Our Breath
Thursday, April 24th, 2008The season just ended for us. The team is now leaving for home bases all around the world. We will all catch our breath then reconvene to reflect on the season; review what we need to do to improve; and then set forth our plan for next season.
Bruce is our coach. He deserved the deal he negotiated with George for his fine work. Thank you coach. You made us all proud.
As to individual players and deals, it does us no competitive good to go public with our thoughts, budgets and strategies. George will act at the right time within the confines of our long term plan. We will have a busy off season but we need the time to clear our heads and act with reflection and planning.
I would also like to make one comment. From time to time, I will read some message board posts or receive emails about a player. The fan will write with conviction and in anger “So-and-so is soft. He doesn’t hit. He should be benched because he isn’t tough.” and I will know that same player is playing in a playoff game with both a separated shoulder and a broken jaw. The player is a true warrior and is tough as nails and has the true respect of his teammates for playing so hurt. From time to time, a little empathy is in order.
Thank you.
Safety is Our Primary Concern
Thursday, April 24th, 2008I believe that safety and the feeling of security is a primary deliverable of the organization to its fans. Safety is why I considered NOT allowing Flyers and Caps fans to mingle at the glass before the game. Safety is why we don’t play inciting videos on the big screen. The throwing of bottles and coins and other items onto the ice after the game was truly a horrible experience. I offered my apologies to the Flyers via a phone call with their ownership and I believe that Verizon Center will be forced to look at new measures to secure all of our fans’ safety. These actions of a few were very uncharacteristic of our great fan base and I am asking everyone to please show decorum and consideration to other fans at our games. Thank you.
Nicklas Backstrom Deserves the Award
Thursday, April 24th, 2008Nicklas is a great young player; a great big game performer; and a very nice young man. We are all proud of him and are so looking forward to his development in a Washington Capitals uniform.
