“A Log Jam Down the Middle”

As I said, ”The rebuild is over.” ;-)

Too funny. Now we have too many options; too many good players; too many centers;and too many line combinations. Too much to think about.

Aren’t these great problems to have?

September can’t come fast enough.

  1. At least we fans have the awards show and entry draft to look forward to in June (any official fan get-togethers for those being arranged by the Caps, I wonder?) Then there’s rookie camp in July…and personnel decisions to monitor throughout the summer.

And I’d like to think that this will be the longest offseason we’ll have to endure for quite some time to come. Here’s hoping!

  2. I agree. I can’t wait until September! But in the meantime we can enjoy our players picking up some hardware this June and gaining some more potential quality players!

  3. It seems to me that center is the one position that you can never have too much depth in. I’m sure great centers can also play the wing and if you can have 2 centers out at multiple times, you will have a distinct advantage in faceoffs. So let’s find places for them all!

  4. There are going to have to be some changes, as the Caps right now have 16 NHL calibre forwards, 10 NHL calibre defensemen and 2 goalies. Now unless the league is going to let the Caps carry 28 players someone has to go.

The first question and the most serious is the status of Brian Pothier. Is he able to play at all? Concussion disorder is a really bad thing and at least one Capital recently (Trevor Halverson) had to retire due to the condition. Here’s hoping for the best.

The next question is the status of the four remaining unrestricted free agents:

Cristobal Huet has sent out lots of indications he wants to remain here in DC, but can he be resigned at a salary that fits within the Cap

Does Sergei Fedorov want to play at all next year and if so, does he want to play in DC? (I suspect if he does play in the NHL in 2008-09 it’ll be here…)

Do Matt Cooke and Matt Bradley fit into the future plans of this team?

Of course, if all four go, then we’re down to 24 players (23 without Pothier) but there still needs to be a change as we end up with only one goalie…not good.

I’m sure the team will look great by the fall… :)
