Wow - big money ball here in DC. The Lerner family has paid $450 million for the Nationals and $50 million in stadium improvements. The city has paid $600 million plus for the stadium and more than $1.1 billion invested to bring baseball to DC. It is a good thing that the stadium was built when it was in today’s economy. This effort would have been looked at with great skepticism. We are fortunate to have the Nationals in town. I look forward to going to some games this Memorial Day weekend.
Neat blog, some interesting details. I believe 8 of days ago, I have found a similar post. Does anyone know how to track future posts?
I waited 28 years for baseball in DC and I’m bloody well glad it’s here – and the new ground really is first-rate. It’s got nearly everything – magnificent sightlines, easy access, a terrific high-def scoreboard in centre field, roomy concourses, great beer selection -everything, that is, except a winning team of course (hopefully that will come with time.)
This article aside, I don’t believe DC is a good baseball market period.
