Alex’s comments sailed right over Mike Milbury’s head last night. I got it, did you?
Alex just won the awards for most goals and points for the season and Mike Milbury is talking about him being a “dog” and then he is asked to compare himself to Sidney Crosby. What a broadcasting crew. I am glad Alex is above it all and has a droll sense of humor to boot.
My fix so as to not have to listen to that twit Milbury is to turn to broadcast sound off and listen to the play-by-play via the web. Still get a delay, but the home team commentators always do a better job on the commentary and timeout / intermission interviews than NBC could ever hope to accomplish with there current stock of onscreen personalities.
That was the worse interview I have ever watched. How do you not even talk about the two awards Ovie received? I LOVE hockey, but I cannot stand it on NBC. The announcer is good, but his voice is so annoying. Then you have Milbury and Pierre who are trash. I really hope they get rid of them. I hope you took care of some business after that interview Ted.
However, I loved Ovie’s comeback. He is the best!
Alex got it right. Milbury is a “little cat”, which I think is a valid definition for a certain euphemism that begins with “pu…”
Sums Milbury up nicely I think…
All I can think about though is the scene from Slapshot where Reg Dunlop directs one of the Hanson’s to take care of the organist by firing a puck up into the booth (for playing “Lady of Spain” one more time!). I can see Alex possibly wing Milbury with a puck from the ice during warm-up one day. Nah, Alex has too much class for that.
Here’s an idea… turn down Milbury for a press credential for the 2008-09 season…
My friends and I were discussing that. Clearly, Milbury is fool of great judgments (just look at all the spectacular trades he made on the Island– they should have a couple Cups by now if he hadn’t jettisoned them so bad). I’m a Flyers fan first, Caps fan second, but I couldn’t help but become furious. I couldn’t believe my eyes! I’d love to see an NHL broadcast void of total idiots. But I think that’s too much to ask for. Classy by AO.
Milbury made an arse of himself yet again. If NBC keeps him or McGuire beyond this year, they don’t want to keep hockey. Plain and simple.
Ted has to make a formal complaint to the league about this unprofessional clown. Ovie was so composed and I loved his comeback. What a jerk Milbury is!!
Hilarious … and smart. GO ALEX!
Ovie is way smarter than either of those two clowns. He is also a much more polished public person. He handled their stupidity and insulting questions with class and dignity. He called Mike Milbury a (kitty cat) to his face, and Milbury didn’t even know it. Ovie is such a great credit to our team and our city. I could not be prouder of him.
Boo Pierre & Mike, they didn’t get the joke.
there STUPID!
Home Depot has fewer tools than NBC SPORTS.
I was half-expecting Milbury to pull off Alex’s shoe and start hitting him with it. Get a haircut?!! What is he, his mom?
Milbury is an idiot. Maybe NBC will get smart in the off-season and kick him to the curb. He has bashed the Capitals organization enough this year. Now it’s time to send him where he belongs – to the unemployment line.
I saw that; really funny. I just hope Alex had his shoe laces tied tight and double knotted last night. Just for old time’s sake, the fans in both Pittsburgh and Detroit should chant “Mike Must Go” just like they did in Long Island. It’ll really make him feel at home.
You can watch the “Media Professionals” look like stooges here:

I feel bad that Alex had to deal with that. He came off as the true professional he is.
I e-mailed NBC Sports because I thought the whole interview was totally unprofessional:
I just wanted to voice my displeasure at the interview with Alex Ovechkin last night. Instead of a thoughtful interview discussing all of Ovie’s accomplishments this season – winning the Art Ross & Richard trophies, breaking the NHL record for goals by a left winger, leading his team into the playoffs, etc. – it was totally disrespectful of him. To bring up the “dog” quotes was awkward, then grabbing him and finally telling him he needed a haircut (which he’s obviously had since the playoffs) was even worse. I was almost hoping Ovie would punch him, but unlike his interviewer, he’s too classy for that.
Milbury called the Capitals the “crapitals” during the playoffs, first unintentionally then intentionally, and now this.
I only hope that when Ovechkin and the Caps are successful in the future, as I am confident they will be, they will turn down any interview requests with Milbury. He doesn’t deserve their time or attention.
Ovie, and all hockey fans, deserved so much better last night.
Those who can, do…those who can’t, become network commentators.
Seriously, AO wins two of the biggest NHL awards in one day and all Milbury can talk about is dogs and haircuts? What a cad! Awesome comeback Alex…maybe next time you should be the one asking the questions!
Ted,
couldn’t agree more: the commentators on NBC are the worst!!
i agree completely, the class he showed speaks volumes about his character.
I can deal with the NBC play-by-play and color men (Emrick is good and Olczyk is ok), but Milbury and his sidekick are as annoying as it gets. Makes me turn the channel during periods. Smug and awkward, it seemed they were completely unaware of the bad jokes and assumed they were “in” enough with Ovie they could make innapropriate comments for the situation. Ovie handled it with class, as always. Additionally, I’m not aware of any law that says you have to ask Ovie about Sidney Crosby in EVERY interview. Three years is enough, but perhaps because they were on NBC (N-othing B-ut C-rosby), they are abliged to ask the Ross/Richard & likely Hart/Pearson award winner about another hockey player. Enough already! Thanks Ted.
