I had forgotten about the shoe incident at Madison Square GardenĀ andĀ the quote about the village idiot. The comment about hair gel is tame, if lame, in comparison.

I’d wondered (briefly) if that incident was the inspiration for the fan fight scene in the movie “Slapshot” but apparently the incident in this clip happened after that movie was released.
I’m guessing that this type of “fan interaction” wasn’t exactly unheard of in the ’70′s.

Class act!
I surprised this didn’t get more play during the NBA debacle a few years back.
One can only laugh at the story of this guy’s career. I guess you can shake your head, say “what a character,” and remain unsurpised that Milbury’s going to be controversial.
The biggest chuckle I got from the wiki entry is “traded away. . .” followed by a long list of NHL luminaries.
Could be worse, the NHL could try to bring in Howard Stern as a commentator much in the way the NFL tried bringing in Dennis Miller years ago to add more comedic color commentary.
Mike Milbury IS the village idiot! Between him and McGuire’s bonehead comment about the “Crapitals” – I don’t know who’s worse! Surely NBC can find better on-air talent. Personally, I’d rather see Bill Clement and ESPO….
