I know you can do it but the first and most important thing is to sign Federov. If you give him 2 years the payoff with Semin will be worth it in itself. You cant deny the groth seen in Semin since Fedorov got there. And in the IIHF worlds he was amazing. Federovs experiance is a must at this stage of this young teams DYNASTY ya I said it dynasty. If things are done write thats what you have here and god am I so looking forward to it. AND IT STARTS WITH SIGNING FEDEROV

Ovechkin took the hometown discount and that was huge. Ted’s reaction to this article has placed the first seed of doubt that Mike Green will be back next year, because he’s exactly the kind of player Toronto or the Rangers throw stoopid money at along the lines of $7 million annually.

It’s spelled Fedorov and unless he takes 50 cents on the dollar he seems like a luxury to me, essentially upgrading the third line center. The only must is signing a goalie, and there’s really only two plus guys on the market: Huet and Ellis, the latter of whom led the postseason in save percentage.

This comment is directed towards Don Beaulieu.

Fedorov is a not a need. The needs are Green and Huet. This team can not compete with Green and Huet. The team can do just fine without Fedorov. A #1 D-man and a #1 Goalie are more important then Fedorov, who would probably be the #3 center behind Backstrom and Nylander.

Green part of this teams future, Fedorov is not

    Ted,

It’s going to be very difficult and we hope you and George can get Green signed. I think Ovechkin’s contract is favorable to the Caps 3 years from now, when he could command $13M a year and we are paying him $10M a year. Still, hockey is a business and you and George have business decisions to attend. If we could get Green for just 2 years, that gives us 2 great chances to get in another Stanley Cup Final series as Eastern Division Champs.

    Tyler,

The #1 D-Man will be here in September in Alzner. He won’t be #1 right away but boy does he project to being a #1 come this spring.

The big issue is getting a goalie signed. Huet is the ideal situation and hopefully will be the answer. If not, on July 1 Jose Theodore (former Vezina winner) is also a UFA and would also be a nice answer to the #1 spot. Getting Green signed would be good to, so some moron GM (see Kevin Lowe in Edmonton) doesn’t offer him a ridiculous contract (see Penner…a good player, but not at the salary he gets in Edmonton). Remember after the Nylander thing, Lowe would love to stick it to the Caps…
