An amazing story! Tiger was really committed to winning the US Open on Father’s Day weekend but it was an expensive victory as he is now out for the rest of the golf season. He won the battle but lost the war. Smart career move? What do you think?
Tiger could be a good hockey player. He played hurt and won in the playoffs, too.
Nice Jim Croce reference. It will be interesting to see if the field can use the time given by Woods injury to catch up and pull the mask off the ol’ Lone Ranger.
That will probably go down as one of if not the greatest US Open victory ever.
Who can look into the mind of a genius? Not me. A “smart” thing to do would have been to get the ACL injury fixed last summer and rehab in time for this year’s Masters. But Tiger wouldn’t have won the 07 PGA and a slew of other tournaments if he had gone that route. We just can’t tell yet whether it was all worth it in the long run. No matter what the future brings, Tiger certainly raised his legend to another level by winning the Open. Let’s just hope that he can rehab well enough to keep his (super)powers intact.
Tiger may be on the path to breaking another norm in golf: impressively long careers. Watching some of the mental mistakes he made on Sunday was painful. He should not have needed to make a great putt on 18 to force the playoff in the first place. Perhaps Tiger can not play his game if he doesn’t have the dial to 11. If that’s the case then age will not be friendly to him.
Tiger’s incredible, this latest tournament win adds to his lore but at 32, he’s not getting any younger. When he gets healthy, I wonder how long it will take before he is dominant again. This half season he’s won four times, with one major and over $5.0 million in earnings. That’s a career for a lot of the golfers on tour. Can he get back to that level? It’s going to take time.
I don’t think we’ll see the same Tiger we’ve seen in the past. He probably needs to make adjustments in his swing so he doesn’t re-injure his left knee again. He’s so explosive off the tee and his work out routine is unreal (so I’ve read) If anyone can do it, it’s Tiger Woods.
Depends. I’m not sure Tiger’s ever played it one-season-at-a-time. I think his eye is on a prize much farther out. This was one more brick in his legacy-wall. Unless he’s so damged he can’t play at past levels in the future, I think he’ll look back on this as well worth it.
No joke, Tiger–stick to golf togs, and leave the full-length threads to the experts.
On the one hand, Tiger may have immensely helped his legacy: you can’t play golf much better than winning the US Open on only one leg. On the other, if he’s out long-term–as in, longer than a year or two–you have to wonder if he’s going to come back to the links and be as good as he was.
And I REALLY feel sorry for the networks that are going to be broadcasting Tiger-free golf coverage for the rest of the year. If ratings even hold steady, it would be something of a minor miracle.
It’s not good for golf at all, but Tiger wanted the US Open, and the US Open he got. In the long run, it won’t have been worth it, I think.
we will only know down the road if it was prudent for tiger to have played in the open, but given his dedication to the game and his career, at this time one can only presume that tiger made an informed and right choice.
also, given tiger’s recent comments about hockey, apparently the only negative comments he has ever made about another sport(even if he was kidding), i do not believe he would have had the passion for the game of hockeyto become an accomplished nhl player.
