Thank you Alex. I love that Alex signed the biggest contract in NHL history. It hasn’t kicked in yet and the media is asking him if he is disappointed in his deal. We live in interesting times, don’t we? Once a player signs a contract, it can’t be re-opened and it it can’t be renegotiated. That is a part of the new CBA. Alex Ovechkin is a class act and we are grateful that he has committed to us for 13 more years.
Let’s say Alex’s deal does look average 5 or 6 years from now and the salary cap has increased by 50%. All it does is free up cap space to keep good players around Alex. That’s probably one reason why his deal is 9MM over the first 6 years and then bumps up to 10 for that last 7 years… anticipation of a saray cap increase.
Huet will have his money, but no Cup. Ovie will have both.
I have read and listened to many interviews by Alex Ovechkin. He has very clear GOALS. And those goals are identical to those of The Washington Caps. It’s about winning the cup, team work and giving back to the community. In my opinion, he made a smart choice.
AO signed the right contract for the right team at the right time. The Caps are not a team of the future anymore… they’re a team of now.
The Stanley Cup is coming to DC… perhaps even in 2009.
If there is something that Alex wants over the next 15 years that he cant afford…I would like to find out what it is.
