Pick up a copy of this month’s Atlantic Monthly magazine. The cover story on “Is Google Making us Stoopid” is a really great and thought provoking piece. This is a great magazine. I spent more than 100 minutes with it. I read it cover to cover so I know that Google isn’t making me stupid. Read the article and you will understand.

I Agree with Brian Burke on This One…
The last two years, all we have discussed when planning our off season moves is the threat of offer sheets to our young players. We have rebuilt the team around our young players. We are keeping our team together – which is good news – but our young players are all signing deals that look to me like UFA deals all because of the threat of offer sheets. That is a new fact of life that all franchises are living with now in our busy off seasons.
A Chapter Closed
Jaromir Jagr is leaving the NHL and going to play in Russia.
It was seven years ago that we made the trade to bring him to Washington, DC…a lifetime in sports. So much water has gone under the bridge in that time frame. We have a completely different team than the one he played on now.
This press story reminded me of that summer so long ago when we made the trade for Jagr, the hope and promise it represented and the eventuality of how it turned out for our team. Not all big deals and big signings work out. We took a risk. It didn’t work and we have moved on. A lesson learned.
I wish him the best in his new career in Russia.
