I have received lots of email suggestions as to signings from people that email us a lot and post on the message boards. Here are some of the signings some of the fans wanted us to do this off season:
1. Jaromir Jagr so he could be reunited with Michael Nylander.
2. Owen Nolan because we need a rugged winger.
3. Todd Bertuzzi because we need a rugged winger.
4. Ken Klee because he would like the new system and he is a rugged D man.
5. Peter Bondra because we need more firepower on the power play.
6. Trade for Brendan Witt because we need a rugged stay at home D man. He deserves to come back and retire a Capital.
7. Sergei Gonchar because we need another QB on our second power play in addition to Mike Green.
All I can say is thank you for the emails. We appreciate the support but I don’t think any of these players will be in a Capitals uniform next season.
Ted- I see that you did not include Brad Pitt on your list…. does that mean he is still a possibility?
Jonas- good line
Amazing how some fans just don’t have a clue.
If we can get Fedorov done, we’ll have all we need! 4 of those players listed above are so far over the hill, they can’t even see the hill anymore. One was a franchise killer, and one wanted out of here so badly and I’ll bet now he would just LOVE to come back (I’m talking to you Witt)
Let the past be the past. You don’t see me wanting us to head on up to Manitoba and see if we can get a 40-something Mike Ridley back on the squad! Though he was a solid player!
All I can say is “thank you Ted” for wading through all these “amazing” suggestions! Maybe Rod Langway is available of how about having Bengt come back to play with his son!
Yikes!
Damn. I was soooo hoping Jagr was coming back. Well, at least he apologized to you, Ted.
Okay, Ted. Whoever said Jagr should come back needs to be called out.
Who was it, and here does he live?
That has to be a joke. Jagr back in DC? Booooooo!!!! Ken Klee? Sergei Gonchar? ha. Good one Ted
. Wouldnt mind seeing Bondra throw on the Red for one last game though…just for sentimental reasons. I’m buying my first set of season tickets ever today and I can certainly say I wouldnt be doing so if our limited amount of cap room was used on any of those players. What are people smoking these days?
How ’bout Ken Dryden , just because it would be cool
A few of those might have been from your own staff!
I hear the Hanson Bros. are all UFA’s – you might have GMGM look into them
. Each naturally complements Brashear and can aid Ovechkin at getting those chips out of the vending machine. So far the moves look right, look forward to the season opener (could it get here fast enough already?).
what’s wrong with brendan witt? he’s still awesome
Can we at least take the Keith Aucoin signing off the front page so that when we log on we don’t view that as our “bold move”. Just kidding. I love the team, no need to complete suggestions 1-7. Federov would be enough, along with a healthy Clark.
Three years from now you can rub Aucoin in my face when he scores a winning playoff goal.
The only signing I would agree with (but not with the justification provided), would be a short-term contract for Bondra if he decided to hang up the jersey so we could retire him as a Cap. Otherwise, nobody on that list seems to offer us anything for what they will get in salary. Keep going with the young approach…
LOL! Sometimes I don’t know how you reply with a straight face.
I did just read that Cooke went to Pittsburgh… that one stung. If we couldn’t have him, I think I would have preferred anywhere but there. Oh well…. ONWARD CAPS!!!
I certainly hope not. Thanks, Ted.

Comments on these guys:
1) Jagr is under contract to another organization and not available (how would a trade work between the Russian League and the NHL work, anyway?)
2) Nolan is a little bit past his prime’
3) Bertuzzi is a lot past his prime!
4) Klee is a great guy, would love to see him back in DC in a couple of years as a coach…
5) Peter Bondra should also come back to DC and take a bit of a class in being a GM from George. That Slovakia ended up in the relegation round at the worlds in an auspicious debut (they avoided relegation though!)
6) Witter…hmmm… he was a terrific player when he was here… wouldn’t mind seeing him back, but he’s not going to be the player he was when he was in his prime here…
7) We have Green, we don’t need Gonch. Green has more upside than Gonch, and that’s saying something!
Wow, we got some real good scouts out there dont we? Why dont you get these people to scout for us, we’d win a stanley cup for sure! *sarcasm*
